2 GOLIATH The Goliath is one of the largest offshore construction vessels in the world. This multi-functional vessel is equipped with DPIII and a 1600mt crane, primarily for offshore installation. The Goliath can be readily equipped for pipelaying as welll as saturation diving and a variety of other functions. The vessel also has substantial accomodation in the form of 300 high-quality berths. The heavy lifting test of the large crane was carried out in the open sea with a 1,760 t test weight corresponding to 110% of the nominal load capacity. The test loads consisted of two water filled pontoons which were lifted out of the water and turned around. Available for the client will be roughly 240 berths, once extra catering crew are in place to look after them. There are 5 offices and 2 conference rooms available to the client. The mess room will seat 150 at one time, and there is a large recreation room provided as well as a 24-seat cinema. A fully fitted gym and sauna are also fitted, as well as a swimming pool installed above the bridge. Each generator outputs 2,200 kilowatts, giving a total of 17,600 kilowatts available. An emergency generator with a Caterpillar 3500B engine is installed, which outputs 1424 kilowatts.

3 THRUSTERS Aft: Three Rolls Royce azimuth thrusters, each of 3,333 kilowatts. Fwd: Two Rolls Royce drop-down azimuth thrusters, each of 2,400 kilowatts, plus Two Rolls Royce tunnel thrusters, each of 1,355 kilowatts. All thrusters are powered by frequency-drive motors supplied by Wartsila. 4 CRANEAGE MTC 7800 MAIN CRANE C R A N E S The MTC achieves a maximum lifting capacity of 1,600 t at up to 35 m radius. This corresponds to a maximum dynamic moment of 78,000 mt, the crane still being able to slew over 360. At a maximum radius of 74 m for the main hoist the crane achieves a lifting capacity of almost 530 t. The boom length of the crane currently delivered is 87 m. In addi-tion to the main hoist, the MTC offers two auxiliary hoists with lifting capacities of up to 200 t and 50 t respectively. The drive concept is based on an electro-hydraulic drive with 8 x 500 kw or 4 MW power. The two main winches offer a line pull of 500 kn (50 t) with a rope diameter of 48 mm. High safety standards are among the most important criteria to be fulfilled during the development of the new offshore crane. The standard equipment of the MTC features the proven Litronic control system with integrated display of load and radius as well as automatic load moment limitation. This is completed by special overload protections which are either activated electronically (AOPS automatic overload protection system ) or manually (MOPS manual overload protection sys-tem ). The crane's auxiliary hoist is fitted with a constant ten-sion system exerting a tensile force on the hoist rope in case of significant wave height, thus ensuring that the hook follows the moving load. The vessel is further equipped with 2 x 100 t Litronic cranes.
