The goals for the European Transplant Sport Championships 2016 To raise the awareness of organ donation and transplantation in Finland and beyond To promote the transplant sports on national (and international) level To host outstanding games for the European participants To offer financially accessible Games for athletes and supporters Together with our partners, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will arrange a high quality European Transplant Sport Championships in Vantaa.
European Transplant Sport Championships 2016 key elements Maintaining the indipendent characteristics of both Games by having separate medal events and competition programmes i.e. Parallel Games To have both Games at the same time frame and at the same place To gain economic synergy by using the same venues, staff and other facilities where possible To bring closer different organ transplant groups in European Transplant Sport Championships and hopefully in other aspects as well!
VANTAA Part of the Capital Region Vantaa is a part of the Capital Region which includes Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa. Accommodation The participants will have excellent accommodation facilities and the accommodation hotels are only 200 meters apart The hotels are located with-in 5 km of the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and in the midpoint of the main competition venues Hotels are located with-in walking distance of one of the largest shopping and entertaining centers in Finland Hotels Cumulus Vantaa (approx. 500 persons) Rantasipi Vantaa (approx. 500 persons)
Medical Team and facilities Medical Team The Medical Team is comprised of leading transplant specialists who will have access appropriate health care services. The Team is led by Prof. Ari Harjula, transplant surgeon in Helsinki University Hospital. Former President of the Finnish Society of Sport Medicine. Eero Honkanen, Chief physician of nefrology department in Helsinki University Hospital Merja Vuorio, Specialized in transplant physiotherapy, Helsinki Univercity Hospital Medical facilities In Finland organ transplantations are centered to Helsinki, which gives our Capital Region an excellent network of organ transplant doctors and health care professionals. Dialysis facilities LOC will utilize modern Helsinki University Hospital and B. Braun dialysis centers located with-in 10 km from the accommodation hotels
