LinkedIn What is Linked In? LinkedIn is the world s largest professional network that connects people and trusted contacts and helps exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals. Why should I use Linked In? LinkedIn is your professional networking site. It is a profile that truly represents you and the image you would like to display to current and future employers and professional connections. Your LinkedIn site can be part of your branding and part of your visibility. If a potential employer takes the time to google your name and your LinkedIn profile pops up, you are giving that employer the opportunity to learn more about you - and why you might be the best candidate for the job. Within the site you can: List your current and past positions & education along with your tenure there. This helps the right people and opportunities find you. Add a profile photo people never forget a face! Add a summary paragraph. Think of it as your professional elevator pitch. Ensure your connections represent your real-world network. Use webmail import to see, in seconds, all the people you know who are already on LinkedIn. You can then select who you wish to invite to join your trusted network. Upload a contacts file from Outlook, ACT!, or Mac Address View our list of your colleagues and classmates that are already on LinkedIn. Post a question on Answers and tap into the experts you re connected to and the entire LinkedIn network. 4) Enhance your profile Once you have entered basic information, you can add more details and strengthen your profile to work best for you. Upload photos keep the photos professional! Add Experience include all jobs that are relevant to your career goals Add Education make sure to include Heller! Add Languages Select Skills & Expertise 5) Build your professional network On the Home page, in the upper right hand corner is a box: People You May Know Click Connect under the listed contacts to make a connection with them You can also select Add Connections under the Contacts tab See Who You Already Know on LinkedIn With your email address, LinkedIn will find your contacts and give you options to become connected with them through LinkedIn Enter Email Addresses If you have the email addresses of people whom you would like to connect with on LinkedIn, enter the email addresses here and a request for a connection will be sent.
Adding your LinkedIn Profile to HellerCareerConnect.com Step One: Locate your LinkedIn URL Log into your LinkedIn profile Within the main bar click on the Profile tab, which is to the right of the Home tab In the profile box, towards the bottom, your LinkedIn URL is listed next to Public Profile Select the URL and copy it Step Two: Paste your LinkedIn URL into your CAREERCONNECT profile Log into your CAREERCONNECT profile found here: http://www.hellercareerconnect.com/ Click Student/Alumni Type in your username and password. If you forgot your username, contact your Match Coordinator If you forgot your password, click the Forgot Password link under the login screen Once you are in the system, click on the Profile tab located to the right of the Home tab Within the Personal box, click Edit in the upper right hand corner The 8 th option under Student Information is Linked In Profile (under the email addresses) Copy the URL from your LinkedIn profile and Paste it in the box next to Linked In Profile
