Introduction This guide covers the installation of Bluebeam Studio Server. This server enables you to store your Studio projects as well as host your Bluebeam online collaboration sessions on your own local server. Before installing Bluebeam Studio Server, you will need to have several prerequisites in place. This document will show you how to install and configure these prerequisites for your Studio Server installation. The next sections of this document will guide you through the Bluebeam Studio Server installation process and usage of the Studio Server management tools. System and Hardware Requirements This section covers the minimum system and hardware requirements for Bluebeam Studio Server. Supported Operating Systems Bluebeam Studio Server is supported on the following Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit (Recommended OS) Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server Bluebeam Studio Server is compatible with the following SQL Server Database Management Systems: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express If SQL Server is not yet installed in your environment, please see Installing a New Instance of SQL Server on page 8. If SQL Server is already installed, please see Configuring an Existing Instance of SQL Server on page 12. Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Bluebeam Studio Server requires the installation of Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0. Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Bluebeam Studio Server is compatible with the following versions of IIS: IIS 7.5 IIS 7 SMTP E-mail Server Bluebeam Studio Server requires access to an E-mail account on a SMTP server that will be used to send E-mail session invitations and other communications to sessions' hosts and attendees. Studio Server requires the following information: 4

SMTP E-mail server address SMTP E-mail server's outgoing port E-mail address for Bluebeam Studio Server Password for the E-mail account The reply-to E-mail address for E-mail sent from the Studio Server Firewall Configuration Firewall settings for both Studio Server and the Revu clients need to be configured to ensure proper connectivity to one another. The Studio Server requires the following firewall settings to be configured: SQL Server 1 SMTP E-mail Server 1 HTTPS on IIS 2 Network Discovery to confirm that other machines can access it 2 The Bluebeam.Studio.Service.exe listens in on port 7398 and opens connections on other ports; therefore, it must be a trusted program in your firewall configuration. 2 Certificate Requirements and Deployment Bluebeam Studio Server and Bluebeam PDF Revu clients use SSL certificate-based authentication to encrypt the data connection. All Bluebeam PDF Revu clients are required to have a certificate installed that allows them to authenticate the Bluebeam Studio Server. Likewise, the Bluebeam Studio Server requires that certificate to operate. Studio administrators can setup a domain or wildcard certificate to configure Bluebeam Studio Server. The installation process allows Studio administrators to create a self-signed certificate on the fly. Once the certificate has been created, the certificate may be distributed to individual workstations either via Group Policy or manual installation. 1 Must be configured manually. 2 Can be configured automatically if using Windows Firewall during the Bluebeam Studio Server installation process. 5

Hardware Requirements Hardware requirements are based on a number of factors, including the expected number of simultaneous Studio sessions, the number and size of PDF files for Studio sessions, the size and number of markups in Studio sessions and the size and number of Studio projects. It is recommended that you consult with Bluebeam technical support if you would like assistance estimating the anticipated usage of Studio when defining hardware. Processor Bluebeam Studio Server is supported on 64-bit architecture environments. For the best performance, it is recommended to run Bluebeam Studio Server on at least a 64-bit dual core architecture or better. RAM For 64-bit architecture Operating Systems, at least 8 GB of RAM is recommended. Disk Space Since Bluebeam Studio Server can be installed on one machine and the database installed on another machine, there are two sets of Disk Space requirements. Database Disk Space Requirements It is estimated that users will need at least 100 GB of disk space for the database; however, the disk space requirement depends on the size of the files and markups that occupy the database. Studio Server Disk Space Requirements It is recommended that the machine that Bluebeam Studio Server is installed on have at least 100 GB of space available. Network Network connections tend to be the main bottleneck impacting Bluebeam Studio's performance. It is recommended that the server running Bluebeam Studio Server be connected via a gigabit network. 6

Installing and Configuring the Prerequisites Configuring Microsoft SQL Server The Microsoft SQL Server requirements for the Bluebeam Studio Server are summarized below: Microsoft SQL Server needs to be configured for Mixed Mode Authentication (Windows Authentication + SQL Server Authentication) Bluebeam Studio Server requires an account that uses SQL Server Authentication with the following permissions: o Create Databases o Create/Drop Tables o Create/Drop Indexes o Create/Drop Foreign Key Constraints o Create/Retrieve/Update/Delete Records The SQL browser service must be enabled and configured properly if the database will be located on a different machine other than the Bluebeam Studio Server The remainder of this section describes the installation and configuration of a Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2. Other versions of SQL Server are supported; refer to Configuring Microsoft SQL Server for more details. For further details and reference related to the installation and configuration of SQL Server, refer to the appropriate Microsoft documentation available on the Microsoft website. 7

Installing a New Instance of SQL Server When installing SQL Server for the first time, it is possible to configure it for Bluebeam Studio Server by adhering to the following suggestions. Load the SQL Server installer, click on the Installation link on the left and then click on the New installation or add features to an existing installation link on the right. (See Figure 1 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Install Wizard for details.) Figure 1 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Install Wizard 8

Follow the instructions on the install wizard until reaching the Feature Selection page. This page allows users to select the feature Database Engine Services---the primary module that runs the SQL Server. Users may also choose to install the Management Tools which includes SQL Server Management Studio. Installing SQL Server Management Studio is not a requirement for Bluebeam Studio Server; however, it can prove to be a useful tool when administering a SQL Server database. (See Figure 2 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Required Features for details.) Figure 2 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Required Features 9

Continue through the wizard until reaching the Instance Configuration page. This page configures the SQL Server Instance name used to identify the database management system. If users choose the Default Instance Name, then the installer will automatically specify the name MSSQLSERVER. (See Figure 3 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Instance Name Configuration for details.) Figure 3 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Instance Name Configuration 10

Continue through the wizard until reaching the Database Engine Configuration page. This page configures the Authentication Mode. Make sure to select Mixed Mode. It will then ask users to specify a password for the sa user account. This page also requires that a Windows user account be specified for the SQL Server Administrator. The account specified will gain access to SQL Server using Windows Authentication. (See Figure 4 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine Configuration for details.) Figure 4 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Database Engine Configuration Continue through with the rest of the installation. Keep track of the name of the machine hosting the server, the database instance name, and the password for the sa account. These pieces of information will be requested during the Bluebeam Studio Server installation process. 11

Configuring an Existing Instance of SQL Server If SQL Server has already been installed, it will need to be configured so Bluebeam Studio Server can connect to it. This section can be used as a guide to configure a SQL Server database that only uses Windows Authentication into one that uses Mixed Mode Authentication. If the state of SQL Server is unknown, this section can also be used to verify that SQL Server is configured properly for Bluebeam Studio Server. Figure 5 Login to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio The best way to update SQL Server from an unknown state is to login to the machine hosting it and connect with Windows Authentication 3. (See Figure 5 Login to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio for details.) 3 This may fail depending on the account used during SQL Server s setup. 12

After logging in, right-click on the root node and go to Properties. (See Figure 6 Editing SQL Server Properties for details.) Select the Security page on the left hand side. Figure 6 Editing SQL Server Properties 13

Make sure that SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode is selected on the right hand side, then click OK. (See Figure 7 Specifying Authentication Type for details.) Figure 7 Specifying Authentication Type 14

Find the sa account and go to Properties. (See Figure 8 Editing SA Properties for details.) Figure 8 Editing SA Properties 15

Select the General page on the left and make sure that SQL Server Authentication is selected on the right. Update or reset the password for this account. Finally, make sure that a default database is selected (i.e. don't leave it blank). (See Figure 9 Configure SA Authentication Type & Default Database for details.) Figure 9 Configure SA Authentication Type & Default Database 16

Select the Status page on the left and set the Permission and Login to Grant and Enable, respectively. (See Figure 10 Configure SA Login Status for details.) Figure 10 Configure SA Login Status 17

Finally, right-click on the root again and select Restart. (See Figure 11 Restart the SQL Server Service for details.) Figure 11 Restart the SQL Server Service Once SQL Server restarts, administrators will be able to connect using SQL Server Authentication and the sa account. Try logging in to SQL Server Management Studio using the sa account as a quick test to verify that it has been setup correctly. 18

Configuring a SQL Server's Accessibility Bluebeam Studio Server and the SQL Server do not need to run on the same server hardware. It is possible to have a dedicated SQL Server machine and a separate dedicated Studio Server machine. However, this configuration requires that SQL Server be configured to allow remote connections. The Windows tool compmgmt.msc can configure the SQL Server Browser to allow remote connections. Click Start, type compmgmt.msc and press enter to bring up the tool. Expand Services and Applications, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Network Configuration and Protocols, then double-click on the TCP/IP protocol. (See Figure 12 Computer Management for details.) Figure 12 Computer Management 19

Verify the protocol is enabled. (See Figure 13 SQL Server TCP/IP Settings for details.) Figure 13 SQL Server TCP/IP Settings 20

Go to the IP Addresses tab and enable at least one of the IP Addresses. (See Figure 14 Enable Specific IP Address for details.) Figure 14 Enable Specific IP Address 21

In the Computer Management tool, go to Services and Applications > SQL Server Configuration Manager > SQL Server Services and then right-click on the SQL Server Browser node and hit Restart. Select the same option for the SQL Server node. (See Figure 15 Restart the SQL Browser Service for details.) Figure 15 Restart the SQL Browser Service Configuring the Firewall to Allow Remote Connections If using Windows Firewall, users must add an Inbound Rule in the Firewall Manager to trust SQL Server. By default, SQL Server is installed at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\Sqlservr.exe. 22

Configuring Internet Information Services (IIS) Bluebeam Studio Server depends on IIS to host access to its Portal and Web Service. Certain features will need to be installed before IIS is ready for Bluebeam Studio Server. The process of installing IIS differs between Windows Servers (2008/2008 R2) and clients (7 64-bit); hence, this section covers how to install IIS properly on both systems. Installing IIS on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 The simplest way to install IIS on Windows Server 2008 R2 is to add the Application Server Role with support for Web Services. Launch the Server Manager and select the Roles node on the left, then click on Add Roles on the right. (See Figure 16 Microsoft Server Manager Interface for details.) Figure 16 Microsoft Server Manager Interface 23

Continue with the wizard until reaching the Server Roles page. Verify that Application Server and Web Server (IIS) are selected in the list of roles. (See Figure 17 Specifying Required Server Roles for details.) Figure 17 Specifying Required Server Roles 24

Continue stepping through the wizard until reaching the Role Services page. Make sure that Application Server Foundation and Web Server (IIS) Support items are selected from the list. When selecting these items a prompt may appear to install additional pre-requisites. Allowing their installation may select additional items from the list. (See Figure 18 Specifying Required Role Services for Application Server Role for details.) Figure 18 Specifying Required Role Services for Application Server Role 25

Continue through the wizard until reaching the Select Role Services page. Make sure that ASP.NET and.net Extensibility are checked off before continuing. (See Figure 19 Specifying Required Role Services for IIS Role for details.) Figure 19 Specifying Required Role Services for IIS Role Step through the remainder of the wizard to complete the installation. 26

Installing IIS on Microsoft Windows 7 IIS is considered a Windows feature in Windows 7. To install it, Administrators must turn on the two Windows features: 1) Web Management Tools and 2) World Wide Web Services. From the Control Panel, access the Turn windows features on or off link. (See Figure 20 Windows 7 Programs and Features for details.) Figure 20 Windows 7 Programs and Features 27

Not all features are required; however, the features highlighted in red on Figure 21 Installing IIS on Windows 7 are required. Figure 21 Installing IIS on Windows 7 Troubleshooting IIS Sometimes upgrades to the Microsoft.NET framework require that IIS re-synchronize with ASP.NET. Doing this takes a few minutes and may require that sites hosted by IIS go off-line momentarily. The best way to do this is by running a command prompt as an Administrator and running the following script: 64-bit Machines %windir%\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -u %windir%\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i %windir%\microsoft.net\framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -u %windir%\microsoft.net\framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -i 28

Certificate Requirements and Deployment Bluebeam Studio Server uses SSL to communicate securely with Bluebeam PDF Revu clients. SSL uses certificate-based authentication, which requires that both the Studio Server and the PDF Revu client have access to the same certificate. Creating Self-Signed Certificates During the Bluebeam Studio Server installation, users are prompted to provide a certificate or create a self-signed certificate. Users need to fill out the form on Figure 22 Creating a Self-Signed Certificate during installation and hit the OK button. If users are creating a self-signed certificate they will need to distribute that certificate to Bluebeam PDF Revu client machines manually, which can be done through Group Policy. Figure 22 Creating a Self-Signed Certificate 29

Using Existing, Self-Signed, Domain, and Wildcard Certificates If a certificate is obtained from a trusted certificate authority, install the certificate onto the Local Machine's Personal store for the Bluebeam Studio Server to be able to access it. This can be accomplished with the Microsoft Management Center (mmc.exe). Once it has been installed, the Bluebeam Studio Server installer will allow users to select it. (See Figure 23 Microsoft Management Center Personal Store for Local Machine for details.) Figure 23 Microsoft Management Center Personal Store for Local Machine Deploying Certificate through Group Policy Please refer to the following external resources for a guide on deploying a self-signed certificate through user group policy. Microsoft provides an official method and additional resources, which are listed below for further assistance: Microsoft Resources http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742376.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770315(ws.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754841.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733922(ws.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734054(ws.10).aspx 30

Bluebeam Studio Server Studio administrators must prepare a SSL certificate, configure their SQL Server database, SMTP server, and IIS prior to installing Bluebeam Studio Server. This section covers the installation of the Studio Server and its administration. For additional configuration information of the software prerequisites, refer to this document's appendices. Bluebeam Studio Installation Wizard Running the Bluebeam Studio Server installer will invoke the installation wizard. If the following requirements are not present, the installation wizard will install them for you. Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client 11 If a Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 installation is required, the installation wizard will download it from the Microsoft website. Please make sure that an internet connection is available, and that http://www.microsoft.com is a trusted site. After all prerequisites have been installed, the Bluebeam installation wizard will proceed with the rest of the installation. 31

Figure 29 Portal Certificate Setup A SSL certificate must be installed in the local machine's personal store for access by Studio Server. During the installation, the wizard will identify and display the available certificates. Select a SSL certificate; however, if no certificate is available, the installer provides an option to create a self-signed certificate by clicking the Create Self-Signed Certificate button. Once the certificate has been created, it must be distributed to all the Revu clients that will connect to the Studio Server. 37

Figure 30 Configure Hostname This step allows you to define the hostname you use to refer to the machine that Studio Server is installed on. All emails coming from Studio Server refer to the hostname of the computer. If the hostname changes after this step is completed, please refer to the end of this section to see how to rerun the Configuration Wizard. 38

Figure 30 E-mail Account Setup An E-mail account must be setup on an SMTP E-mail server that can be used by Studio Server to dispatch E-mails to its registered users. The SMTP server information can be specified in this step. 39

Figure 31 Service Setup Studio Server requires that an IP address is mapped to the machine's fully qualified name. As a result, it is recommended that Studio Server be installed on a machine with a static IP address; otherwise, the server will have to be updated periodically to bind to the correct IP address through the Studio Server Administrator application. 40

Figure 32 Firewall Setup If using Windows Firewall, Bluebeam Studio Server can automatically configure the Firewall for its use. See Firewall Configuration for more details. 41

Figure 33 Configure Administrator When creating a new Bluebeam Studio database, an administrator for Bluebeam Studio Server must be created. This administrator account can be used to monitor the state of the server using the Studio Portal. 42
