1. Overview This guide provides you with the step by step instruction on how to establish a connection to IP- 100 and IP-1100 Hybrid NAS/IP-SAN enclosures, build an array and logical volume, create a NAS volume or iscsi volume, and manage a host client or initiator to enable access to such volume. The enclosures are with preloaded Open-E DSS V6 Lite (1U 10-Bay comes with 10TB storage capacity license, 5-Bay Tower is 5TB and 10TB capacity for 10-Bay Tower NAS/IP-SAN). For a complete guide that describes all the functions of the DSS, please refer to Open-E Data Storage Server Manual available at www.open-e.com. All the examples shown in this guide were performed under Windows environment. 2. Features 2.1 RAID Types The list of supported RAID level is as follow: RAID 0 forms one large hard disk by concatenating stripes from each member drive. Stripe size is configurable roughly between 64 KB and 1 MB. The result is a lightning fast RAID, but with no added security. One failing drive may ruin the entire RAID. RAID 1 mirrors hard drives. By writing identical data onto more than one drive, security is enhanced. A completely defective drive does not cause any loss of data. The drawback is reduced performance and capacity. RAID 5 combines data striping from RAID 0 with parity checking, therefore combining speed and improved security. The loss of one drive is tolerable. RAID 6 extends RAID 5 by adding an additional parity block, thus it uses block-level striping with two parity blocks distributed across all member disks. It was not one of the original RAID levels. The user capacity of a RAID 6 array is N-2, where N is the total number of drives in the array. RAID 6 does not have a performance penalty on read operations, but it does have a performance penalty on write operations due to the overhead associated with the additional parity calculations. RAID 10 is a combination of RAID 1 and 0, hence the name. Data is written in a striped and mirrored configuration, providing high performance and robust security. 2.2 Choosing a Storage System NAS is a file level system that is optimized for file serving application, such as: file/print server, video imaging, medical imaging, snap shot critical data, file system monitoring; which can be administrated remotely. It has heterogeneous OS support which means users running different types of machines (PC, Apple imac, etc.) and running different types of operating systems (Windows, Unix, Mac OS, etc.) can share files. iscsi is a block level system that provides instant disk space. Within an operating system iscsi displays storage space on the network as a local drive, and also allows it to be managed like one. Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. Page 5 of 40

Since iscsi uses the native file system of the applications, it is fully compatible with all file systems. iscsi Target is not a standalone device and an additional host server is necessary. 3. Quick Guide 3.1. Establish connection to Open-E DSS GUI All the external connections have to be ready prior to system power up. Please refer to Hardware User s Guide on how to setup the hardware connection. Make sure to use the intended Ethernet port. Below is the table of the Ethernet port IP address assignments. We will utilize Eth Port-C in this scenario. When enclosure is ready, you can establish a connection to Open-E Data Storage Server from every network computer. Check that the host is on the same subnet as the NAS/IP-SAN enclosure Right click My Network Places and select Properties Under Network Connections, select a Local Area Connection that is connected to the NAS/IP-SAN enclosure (Enabled) Right click on it to select the Properties Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. You will be taken to Local Area Connection Properties, click on the Properties button Check on the IP address field, it should show 192.168.0.100, in this example. If not, change the IP address of the host to match the subnet of the NAS/IP-SAN enclosure You can check the IP address of the NAS/IP-SAN enclosure from console display as described in Appendix Section 5.2 Step 2. Access to Open-E DSS GUI After Local Area Connection has been established, we can proceed to the next step. Use any browser of your preference (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox) and enter the IP address into the URL entry line: https://192.168.0.220 (standard address) Press OK to the Authority Certification window Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. Now you have to accept the license in order to use the Open-E software and you can choose the language you want to use. Log into Open-E Data Storage Server using the administrative level as Full Access and standard password admin (this can be changed later) Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. Upon logging into the GUI, you will be greeted by a screen displaying the information on DSS operating software. You can get DSS User Manual and apply license key on this panel. Please be reminded that you need to activate DSS between 30 days in order to continue using the product. Refer to Section 5.5 on how to activate DSS. 3.2. GUI Overview Legend: 1. Logout button: Press this button to end GUI session 2. Main menu: select one of these to start using DSS functions 3. Submenu: lists the option items of the main menu 4. Interface: list an additional interface that some of the submenus have 5. Current position on the user interface 6. The display of the interface after selected 7. Function: Here is where the functions are displayed 8. 3.3. Create Disk Array and Logical Volume Step 3. Build Disk Array Go to the S/W RAID submenu in the Setup menu tree. You will find a list of available drives. Step 4. Create volume group Next, select the CONFIGURATION volume manager and Unit manager. You will find a list of available drives/arrays (units) that can be used When creating a new volume group, the system adds selected units only. You can use the default volume group name or change it After creation is complete, the page is reloaded and the Status field shows your drives/arrays as "in use To delete a volume group, you need to use terminal console. Refer to Appendix Section 5.3 for doing so. 3.3. Setup a Shared Volume Once the volume group has been created, it will be listed as submenu under Vol. groups menu (e.g. vg00). Under the submenu, you can create either a new NAS volume or iscsi volume, or add volume to an existing one. To create a new NAS volume, follow Step A; for iscsi volume, follow Step B. Step A-5. Step A-6. User share setup Now we need to share the newly created NAS volume. To do this, go to CONFIGURATION NAS resources and create a new share Enter a name of the share and path, press apply afterwards After new share is created, it will be shown as submenu under Shares field (e.g. NAS Sample). Next, go to Users to open a new user creation. Enter a username and password for any user that is authorized to use the shared volume; and press create Next, go to the newly created user submenu interface (e.g. user1). In this section, specify which NAS volume is allowed to be shared by the corresponding user Select the volume from the Available shares pool and hit the arrow to move it to Granted access shares pool Note: Edit user name and password, as well as remove user functions are located here Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. The NAS volume is now ready to be used by any remote host that is connected under the same subnet/workgroup In My Network Places you will find the new NAS volume. Double click it and type in the username and password that is created beforehand Note: If you are unable to log in to DSS with the newly created user information, please un-map/remove the previously created shares or users mapped/assigned as network drives connection prior to signing in. Step B-5. Create an iscsi volume To create an iscsi logical volume, follow these steps: Go to CONFIGURATION volume manager tab Under Vol. group, select the created volume group (e.g. vg00) Under Volume manager Action, select new iscsi volume from the drop down menu You have the options to Just create volume, Add to existing target if you have created a target before, or let DSS Create new target automatically for you. If you chose the latter, skip step B-6 and go to B-7 Specify the volume size and hit apply Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. Page 18 of 40

A new iscsi logical volume is created under the default name of lv0001 To remove, press red X at the end of the iscsi logical volume row Step B-6. Create an iscsi target Go to CONFIGURATION iscsi target manager tab Under Targets, create a new target by typing in target s name and alias, or leave it as default Hit apply Copyright 2009 Advanced Industrial Computer, Inc. Target is created under the default name target0, click on that On Target volume manager, press the green + button to activate the iscsi target You can edit and remove target in this field Step B-7. Setup an iscsi initiator Lets turn to the remote host to setup the iscsi initiator Make sure that the iscsi initiator is under the same subnet as the iscsi target Under Discovery tab, click on Add button to open the Add Target Portal window, enter the IP address of the iscsi target then press OK Next, go to Targets tab. 4. DSS GUI Quick Reference The following pages will describe every functions of Open-E Data Storage Server. 4.1. Setup Menu Within this tab you can manage network interfaces, administrator settings, create disk arrays using software RAID, as well as find iscsi initiator, hardware and GUI settings. Network: Interfaces Setup Options Description Here you can find the tree containing network interfaces. 1. Server name: Enter a shortcut description of your server 2. DNS settings: This function enables you to enter DNS addresses. Please use semicolons to separate addresses 3. Create new bond interface: Here you can create or edit bonding network interfaces 4. HTTP proxy: With this function you can enable or disable an HTTP proxy 5. IPSEC: provides strong authentication and encryption for the connections 6. Interface Info: Here you can view network interface info 7. IP address: Here you can set TCP/IP parameters for selected NIC Network: iscsi Failover Here you can find the tree containing network iscsi failover. 1. Virtual IP Settings: With this function you can view the MAC address and assign virtual IP settings for your chosen interface 2. Auxiliary connection: This option is used to configure the interfaces on which the iscsi Failover sends UDP broadcast traffic 3. Failover Status: This function displays failover statistics such as failover initialization status, node status, ping node accessibility status 4. Failover Configuration: In this section you can configure your system as either the Primary or the Secondary node 5. Failover Tasks: This function displays all available tasks for iscsi volumes 6. Administrator Setup Options Description This menu manages administrator access. 1. Administrator access: Use this function to restrict access to server administration 2. Administrator password: Using this function you can change the passwords for the server administration accounts 3. E-mail notification: The server can send an e-mail notification to the administrator in case of any significant events, critical errors, warnings, etc 4. SLL certificate authority: To ensure the identity of the web administration tool by letting your web browser automatically check it whenever you connect for administration tasks 5. SNMP settings: This function enables you to configure access over the SNMP protocol in versions 2 or 3 6. UPnP settings: This function enables UPnP protocol for device notification 7. Remote console access: Using this function, you can manage console tools remotely via the SSH protocol (secure shell) Hardware RAID Xtore NAS/iSCSI Enclosure does not support hardware RAID. Thus HW RAID function like Online Logical Volume Expansion is not supported. Software RAID Software RAID unit is created and managed here 1. Unit rescan: This function rescans your system for new units 2. Create new S/W RAID unit: With this function you can create software RAIDs from out of free (unused) units 3. S/W RAID e-mail notification: To send notification by e- mail about events on software RAID arrays (e.g. rebuild started, rebuild finished, RAID degraded) 4. Drive identifier: This function has been designated to assist you in finding disks in the enclosure 5. Manager: In this function you can manage the RAID array 6. Info: Using function you can obtain the following information: Creation Time, RAID Level, Array and Device Size, Update Time and State 7. Fibre Channel Setup Options Description Xtore NAS/iSCSI Enclosure does not support Fibre Channel iscsi Initiator Here you can view a list of all connected iscsi server portals 1. Add new portal server: With this function you can connect to a remote iscsi server and add it as a new portal server 2. Initiator iscsi name: Here you can change the name and the alias for iscsi initiator name 3. Portal manager: This function displays available targets for the selected iscsi portal server 4. Remove portal: Here you can remove the selected portal server 5. Target manager: Here you can view the connected target's name as well as its size 6. Disconnect: Here you can disconnect the selected target from the portal server Hardware Below are the functions of hardware menu 1. UPS settings: Here you can configure your UPS device (Uninterrupted Power Supply) 2. Time zone settings: This function allows you to adjust NTP server settings 3. Set time: With this function you can set the time and date 4. Power button settings: In this section you specify what action will be performed when the power button is pressed 5. GUI Setup Options Description Language settings: Select preferred language and click "apply" button 4.2. Configuration Menu Here you can find the tree containing network interfaces. Click on the interface name to see more information about the selected interface. Configuration Options Volume Manager: Volume Group Description Functions of volume group menu is listed below: 1. Unit rescan: This function rescans your system for new units 2. Unit manager: This function allows you to manage physical storage devices - units (hard drives or RAID arrays) 3. Unit identifier: This function has been designated to assist you in finding disks in your NAS server cage 4. Units assigned: With this function you can view physical units attached to this volume group 5. Volume manager: This function allows you to expand existing and create new NAS, iscsi volumes, reserve disk space for swap, create, expand and delete snapshots 6. Snapshot definition: Here you can set the logical volume to which the snapshot will be assigned Volume Manager: Volume Replication Functions of volume replication menu is listed below: 1. Volume replication mode: Here you can set the replication mode for every logical volume (with replication functionality available) 2. NAS Settings Configuration Options NAS Resources: Shares Description NAS settings are described as the following: 1. Authentication method: The server administrator can choose authentication methods for the users, such as Workgroup (internal/external LDAP), Windows (PDC, ADS), Workgroup (NIS server) 2. NFS settings: a protocol for distributed file system which allows a computer to access files over a network as easily as if they were on its local disks 3. FTP settings: To enable FTP services check Use FTP 4. AppleTalk (AFP) Settings: Here you can activate the AppleTalk protocol in the network to access shares on the NAS Server 5. SMB settings: This function allows you to edit SMB protocol specific parameters 6. 5. Appendix Instead of accessing the NAS/IP-SAN DSS remotely through GUI, you can directly manage the system locally. Attach a keyboard and a monitor to the unit. You will only need those devices for basic configuration or extended maintenance configuration. The list of available console functions can be shown by pressing F1 key. Time Setting Make sure you have the proper date and time settings. The settings can be checked and modified by using the following key sequence in the console: left Ctrl + left Alt + T and entering Time Configuration followed by Manual time setting. 5.2. IP Address Setting DSS will display information on its network settings. The following are the default IP settings for the DSS: IP address 192.168.0.220 (Port-C) and netmask 255.255.255.0. These settings can be changed manually by using the following key sequence: left Ctrl + left Alt + N. It is helpful to verify or edit the IP address of the unit prior to log in remotely through GUI. 5.3. Logical Volume Deletion As mentioned in Section 3.2 Step 4, you cannot delete logical volume through GUI. It has to be done in the Console Display. Press left Ctrl + left Alt + X to run Extended Tools. Enter your password Select Delete content of units or Remove LV (Logical Volume) Please be aware that this will erase all the data from the unit. 5.4. Upgrading DSS IP-100 and IP-1100 Hybrid NAS/IP-SAN enclosures come with pre-loaded license of DSS V6 Lite. 1U10 and 10-Bay Tower have 10TB allowed storage capacity. 5-Bay Tower has 5TB storage capacity. Should you need to upgrade the version of DSS or to increase the allowed storage capacity, please contact your AIC salesperson or support below to obtain an extension key. 5.5. Product Activation You have two ways to activate the product: online activation and offline activation. Offline activation: Follow the steps on the screen to obtain the activation code.
