NZQF NQ Ref 1444 Version 3 Page 3 of 8 National Certificate in Surveying (Hydrographic Surveying) (Level 4) Level 4 Credits 131 Purpose This National Certificate recognises the skills and knowledge required by the Royal New Zealand Navy for naval ratings, and by the surveying profession for survey assistants working in a hydrographic context. It is designed for people who use inshore craft and may also work from coastal survey vessels crewed by others. The holder of this qualification is able to apply mathematical, communication, and practical surveying skills for hydrographic surveying under the supervision of a professional surveyor. All the standards are compulsory. This qualification recognises skills in hydrographic surveying measurement and operations, including bathymetric surveys; core knowledge and skills in maritime safety in a hydrographic surveying context; and complementary skills in first aid and basic computing. This certificate shares some standards with the National Certificate in Maritime (Commercial Coastal Watchkeeping) [Ref: 0522]. This qualification does not lead on to any other current NZQF National Qualification.
