Prepared Media

Cherwell Laboratories has been manufacturing prepared microbiological media under the Redipor name since the early 1980s. Flexibility is key to Redipor s philosophy. The ability to supply small or large users quickly without sacrificing quality is a must in today s competitive market. The Redipor range covers a wide variety of media types and includes a selection of commonly used irradiated media, available for immediate despatch from stock. A range of dehydrated media brands can also be supplied, plus customer-specific formulations and special packaging options. The Redipor brand has built a strong reputation within the pharmaceutical industry for high quality products and a flexible, efficient service. All products are manufactured under the control of an ISO9001:2000 registered Quality Management system. At the core of this system is a desire to continually improve the quality of the products and service offered.

It is our aim to be a premier supplier of microbiological prepared media to the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors... to provide the highest level of service to our customers throughout all aspects of the business The Redipor Mission statement In the past two decades more and more users within the industry have been turning to buying in prepared media. This change has been driven by a reduction in laboratory resources, together with a need to reduce costs while improving quality. Buying in offers the user cost savings associated with both volume production and a fully quality controlled, certificated product. However, to be of maximum benefit, a prepared media manufacturer must be flexible and reactive to the individual needs of it s customers as well as industry requirements. The Redipor range has for many years been associated with quality products supported by an efficient and responsive and truly flexible service for small to large users. With the aim of seeking further improvements, the UK manufacturing site for Redipor recently completed a successful relocation. In 2004, a new 470 sq. m ISO Class 7 clean room manufacturing facility was built to accommodate all elements of the Redipor range. This new facility includes improved segregation between preparation and filling, and larger scale manufacturing equipment. A new water processing system has also been incorporated into the new clean room. This new resource provides the facilities to increase production capacity, improve manufacturing conditions and, therefore, product quality and introduce larger batch manufacturing whilst maintaining small scale flexibility. Why Redipor? This extensive range of Redipor products includes many standard items for industry: Petri Dishes 50, 90, 140mm Contact Plates 55mm Irradiated Media Petri Dishes, Contact Plates, Empty Vials Specific customer formulations such as specialist neutralising media and agars supplemented with Penicillinase and ß-Lactamase, together with alternative packaging, can be supplied. As an independent manufacturer, we can also supply alternative dehydrated media products. Bottled Broths & Diluents Screw capped Universals, Alpha & Winchester bottles, Injectable Vials & DIN bottles ISO9001:2000 FM36386 Broth Bags 100ml up to 10 litre

Manufacture small sample document All Redipor products are manufactured within the new clean room suite with some localised unidirectional air flow to maintain product integrity. The new suite is divided into specific areas to improve segregation. All raw materials are carefully prepared, dispensed and documented before being sterilised using modern media preparators. The addition of large capacity sterilisation units allows the production of bigger batch sizes. Each stage of the sterilisation cycle is carefully controlled and monitored to ensure product quality. Once completed, dispensing sets are connected and passed through to the filling area. During the filling process regular checks are made and documented to ensure consistent product quality. Full traceability is maintained throughout the production process. Individual plates are ink jet printed with agar type and batch number, allowing quick and easy identification. The range of bottled broths, diluents and buffers are filled in a separate area. Pre-heating and mixing of the raw materials plus regular checks ensures even distribution when filling. Bottled products are sterilised through a steam autoclave cycle which is closely monitored. The same batch identification and documentation methods are applied to the extensive range of bottled products. Conditioning and final inspection of the finished products are an important part of the Redipor production process. Plated products are stored unpacked for a few days to allow natural drying, avoiding unnecessary condensation after packing. Prior to final packing, individual items are carefully inspected and screened to remove any imperfections.

During the manufacturing process, random samples are selected from each batch and subjected to detailed quality control checks... or large Performance testing The assurance of product performance is vital to the commercial supply of prepared media. Detailed performance data gives customers the confidence to use our products within critical areas. During the manufacturing process, random samples are selected from each batch and subjected to detailed quality control checks. The ph, sterility and growth capabilities of individual batches of media are carefully checked, using standard procedures, and documented. A productivity ratio is generated to assess growth performance of the individual batch against a reference. All products, including gamma irradiated media which are checked before and after irradiation, must comply with stringent acceptance criteria before the product can be released. This detailed testing assures product quality and a comprehensive quality control certificate, showing actual data, is supplied for each batch of media. The long term performance of the finished product gives users increased flexibility. The Redipor range of irradiated products typically have a six month shelf life. Of equal importance are the storage conditions. Redipor products should be stored at ambient temperatures, not in a fridge. This not only prevents the build up of excessive condensation within the plate but also releases refrigerator space for more critical products.

Delivering the service The Redipor range has been at the forefront of developments within the prepared media business, not only in the use of gamma irradiation but also in establishing a productivity ratio for growth performance... Providing a flexible yet reliable service is paramount, as priorities and requirements from customers constantly change due to demands placed on them. Many customers set up standing orders for regular deliveries which assists production planning. While this helps cut down on paperwork, standing orders must be flexible to accommodate fluctuating requirements. Making this process simple and quick is important, many users are faced with ever increasing pressures on their time. Again, Redipor is renowned for its flexible approach to standing orders. A reliable service means that goods are delivered when expected, regularly, and standing orders delivered on the same day. If this is not possible, customers will be contacted to advise of the delay. All products are carefully packed to avoid damage in transit and then despatched within the UK by either first class post or overnight carrier. Where possible, palletised shipments will be considered after discussions with the customer. Shipments to other destinations can be easily arranged. Actual costs will be confirmed at time of order. The future? The Redipor range has been at the forefront of developments within the prepared media business, not only in the use of gamma irradiation but also in establishing a productivity ratio for growth performance. Redipor will continue to innovate and look at new methods and products. The involvement of customers through discussion and site visits for audits, is a vital part of this process.
