KESSLER SOILS ENGINEERING, PRODUCTS, INC. KSE is a Northern Virginia Corporation established in 1994 to provide highquality Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) kits. Since 1994, Kessler Soil Engineering Products, Inc, has been developing, manufacturing, and distributing soil & pavement test devices. Leading Dynamic Cone Penetrometer manufacturer; USA distributor for Zorn Light Weight Deflectometers; and MIT pavement thickness/dowel bar NDT, GSA contractor; Virginia certified Women Owned Small Business. Zorn AT 3000 GPS Light Weight Deflectometer for Asphalt Testing For HMA: Designed to assess the stiffness of Hot Mix Asphalt layers. The LWD for Hot Asphalt uses: 30mm or 50mm diameter stamp 10KG (22lbs) hammer Shows the increasing elasticity or deformation modulus in MN/m² 3

Buildings and roads are only as good as the foundations you build them upon * American Portable Nuclear Gauge Association (APNGA) Website. At the very least, improper compaction costs taxpayers $1 billion a year in wasted diesel fuel, construction labor, equipment maintenance, rework, rehabilitation, litigation and other inefficiencies ** **Prof David White, Iowa State University, Ames and Director of the school s Earthworks Engineering Research Center 4

ZFG 3000 GPS (Soil) portable device for dynamic plate bearing test measures the deflection of compacted subgrade/ subsoils and unbound base layers. helps to safely evaluate bearing capacity of compacted soils based on their elastic behavior (E Modulus) convenient, cost efficient, nuclear free Zorn AT 3000 GPS (Asphalt) brand new Hot Mix application portable device for a modified dynamic plate bearing test measures the deflection of asphalt layers. helps to safely evaluate bearing capacity of newly placed asphalt layers based on their elastic behavior convenient, cost efficient, nuclear free 5

Function The Light Weight Deflectometer for Asphalt works with five drops of a 10 Kg drop weight on a 30 or 50mm diameter stamp. The deflection of every single drop records and is shown on a printout. The difference in deflection from one drop to the next shows the stiffness of the Asphalt layer. Since temperature has a very important influence on Asphalt the Zorn AT 3000 GPS Asphalt Tester has a temperature gauge where a reading can be measured with a sensor near the test point. The software comes with a complete data management with linear or exponential approximation and calculates the deformation modulus in Mpa or MN/m to the standard temperature of 68F. 6

Technical Data Drop Weight 10 kg Drop Height 54cm Force 6,28 kn Pulse time 30/50 mm Temperature C/F Measuring range 500/1,000 MPa 7

Zorn AT 3000 GPS Basics Falling weight of 10 kg (22 lb) drops 5x from a height of 54cm (21.2 in) on a metal stamp with a diameter of 30 mm or 50 mm Stamp with high end acceleration sensor Additional infra red thermometer Acceleration signal is used to calculate deformation modulus (E Hd ), first drop skipped Modulus value adjusted by temperature On site printouts or data transmission to PC via SD Card. 8

E Hd Modulus calculation Calculation according to the following equation: E Hd (a) = f * (1 v²)* sigma * r / s = 1,055 / s (1) With: f = 2 shape factor v = 0.25 Poisson s ratio (for bound material) sigma = 93.768 N/mm² loading pressure under the pin r = 6 mm half diameter of the pin 9
