АIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The main aim of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge related to the problems of electromagnetic and electromechanical energy transformations in asynchronous machines and transformers. The principles of these transformations in asynchronous machines and transformers are studied. Basic topics in control of asynchronous machines are also covered. : Study of the design, structure of the magnetic field, parameters, theory and characteristics of asynchronous machines and transformers basically in stationary mode and shortly in transient processes. The electromagnetic, electromechanical and thermal processes related to the energy transformation are studied. Development and usage of typical mathematical models for analysis and research in asynchronous machines and transformers. PREREQUISITES: The knowledge acquired during the courses in Advanced mathematics, Physics, Mechanics, Material Science, Theory of electrical engineering, Mechanical structures and mechanisms, Electrical measurements, Electronics and Electrical materials. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures with application of demonstrative aids photo, slides and details of electrical machines. Seminar exercises involving solution and study of special problems with the help of Seminar manual. Laboratory exercises, help in specially equipped labs with the aid of Laboratory Exercise manuals. Students should write laboratory exercise reports for each laboratory exercise. METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: Written exam at the end of semester (term) 5 providing 70% of the final score; assessment of the seminar exercises providing 15% of the final score and assessment of the laboratory exercises providing 15% of the final score. PREREQUISITES: Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measurements, Electrotechnical Materials. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures, tutorials solving the different problems using the manual, laboratory works using the equipments for investigation of the fields, processes and phenomena of the electrical apparatus and manual. Protocols showing the results from investigations and analysis are checked by the lecturer. In the process of teaching, the knowledge obtained from lectures is made concrete and profound through tutorials and preparing individual course projects. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with the general problems of the High Voltage Technique. The study of these problems is necessary for the special courses concerning generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. : In this course are studied: breakdown of gaseous insulation, breakdown of liquid and solid insulation, lightning phenomena, high voltage transient analysis, overvoltages, surge protection, measurement of high voltages, high voltage generators for testing, insulation co-ordination PREREQUISITES: A prior knowledge of basic electrical engineering theory and electric power system analysis has been considered as a pre-requisite. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: Acquiring knowledge about the thermal-mechanical part of a station and its connection with the electric part. This connection is based on the fact that the energetic characteristics of the thermal-mechanic machinery define the work of the electric machinery to a great extent. : In the course Power technique the following things are studied: the basic rules about turning the thermal energy into work; the regularities connected with the heat transfer in the steam generator and in other heat-exchanging devices; fuel features, their burning and the steam generating in the steam generator; the basic work principles of the steam turbines and steamturbine installations. Information about the different types of thermal power stations is accumulated and special attention is paid to those, which play a role in the power engineering of our country. PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge acquired in the courses Physics and Mathematics is essential. TEACHING METHOD: Lectures delivered in the classical method on a black board. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The course gives the possibility for specialists to obtain engineering knowledge and skills for creating and developing projects while using electrical apparatus, as managers in manufacturing, repairing, commercial and exploitation organizations concerned with electrical apparatus. On this basis, the specialists study the specific terminology, the essence of the given parameters, indexes and characteristics of the electrical apparatus. They also obtain knowledge and skills when choosing, offering to the market, manufacturing and repairing of the apparatus. : Electrical apparatus II discusses isolational systems, electrical discharge and electrical arc, commutations in electrical schemes, contacts and contact systems. Processes and modes of operation of the apparatus are taught from where one can determine the parameters, indexes and characteristics of the apparatus, their possibilities for exploitation and their demands for protection against dangerous for them and for electrical appliances overloading. PREREQUISITES: The course Electrical Apparatus II uses knowledge obtained from the essential and engineering courses such as mathematics physics, chemistry, mechanics, theoretical electrical engineering, material science, electrical measurements, etc as well as programming and usage of computational technology. TEACHING METHODS: The lectures are conducted with the help of modern teaching technical means multimedia projector. Pulse width modulation for control in power electronic converters. Single-phase unity power factor. PWM converterinverter system. Electromagnetic compatibility, AC-AC converters, chopper, single-phase and three-phase inverter Active power factor correction technology for single and three phase rectifiers. Single phase inverter with PWM. Power factor and shape control over the current consumed from the power network. Power efficiency. Power dissipation and heat sink, power handling capacity. Overvoltage and overcurrent protections. Safe operating areas, snubber circuits. Passive components and interconnections. Construction and manufacturing power converters. PREREQUISITES: The course Converter Technology uses knowledge obtained from the essential and engineering courses such as mathematics, physics, theoretical electrical engineering, electronics, microprocessors and usage of computational technology. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is to provide the students with a basic conceptual understanding of the construction and design of a.c. and d.c. general purpose rotating electrical machines and power transformers. On completion of the course the students should be able to: - Know the basic constructions, mounting arrangements, degrees of protection and methods of cooling of the rotating electrical machines and power transformers; - Know how to select the electrical and magnetic loading, calculate winding data and design the magnetic core of the electrical machines; - Carry out steady state performance analysis. : The main topics concern: Basic principle of electrical and magnetic loading selection; windings and magnetic core dimensions of induction and synchronous machines, direct current machines and power transformers; basic constructions; mounting arrangements; degrees of protection; methods of cooling; methods for electromagnetic and thermal calculation. PREREQUISITES: Applied Geometry and Engineering Graphics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering Theory, Principle of Mechanical Engineering Design, Electronics and Electrical Materials, Electrical Machines. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures with application of demonstrative aids overhead projector, drawings, photos and details of electrical machines. Laboratory works on individual assignment under supervision of the assistant professor. Course Project individual assignment. METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: The final mark is the aggregate of the laboratory work (20%) and final written examination (80%). AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aims and objectives of the Management course аrе to provide students basic knowledge in the field of corporative management, to present the modern concepts in management and to create practical skills for managerial problems. : The subject considers the main problems of management of the business organizations. The development of the managerial theory, the essence of the business organizations and their internal and external environment are considered, the problem solving and decision making is included. The basic managerial function planning, organizing, leading and controlling and their implementation in the main functional field of management of business organisations: marketing, innovation management, production engineering and management, human resource management are considered. PREREQUISTES: The subject requires basic knowledge in Economics. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures delivered by overheads and slides.
