MedaBuddy MedaBuddy High Meda Collection
Vitra has been manufacturing furniture in collaboration with outstanding designers since 1957. Building on this base the company has developed a wide range of furnishings for the office, for the home and for public spaces, in collaboration with progressive designers. Yet Vitra is more than just a design-oriented manufacturing company. The name also stands for the Vitra Design Museum, for a collection of modern furniture and its accompanying archive, for workshops and publications on topics of design and for an architectural concept that unites buildings by Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Álvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA at the Vitra Headquarters in Birsfelden (Switzerland) and on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein (Germany). In the Weil am Rhein manufacturing facility, production volume is based exclusively on incoming orders, which increases the efficiency of energy and power usage. The production processes have been continually improved over the last 15 years and ecologically harmful techniques and materials have been replaced by alternative, sustainable processes and materials. In Vitra s own independent Test Centre, the inspections cover all the relevant international standards and norms for ergonomics and safety, but also go far beyond to test products against Vitra s own set of rigorous standards not only in the course of their development but also by means of spot checks throughout their entire life cycle. The products are also subjected to stringent quality controls before leaving the factory and provided with a label for complete traceability.
Vitra s fourth and latest production site was opened in September 2006 in Zhuhai/China. Extending across 6000 square metres, the facility produces the MedaBuddy office swivel chair, which was designed exclusively for the Asian market. Having our own manufacturing unit in China avoids unnecessarily long supply distances and shortens delivery times aided considerably by its connection to three international ports. This makes it possible to react quickly and flexibly to market demand. The production systems in Zhuhai are the same as in Europe. In addition, regular product tests are conducted to ensure the customary standards of quality. Moreover, compliance with environmental regulations is one of the central priorities throughout all steps of the production process.
MedaBuddy, the office chair in the Meda Collection, concentrates on the essential. It combines intelligent technology and an elegant appearance with a high degree of sitting comfort. It is simple and user-friendly in structure and can easily be adjusted to individual needs. In the development of MedaBuddy, the emphasis was decidedly on the selection of high-quality materials. This quality, combined with the timeless vocabulary of form, makes MedaBuddy a long-lasting chair for everyone. MedaBuddy fulfills all important standards. Alberto Meda, engineer and designer, was born in 1945. He lives and works in Milan. He started working with Vitra in 1994. Since then, he has designed a series of office and conference chairs. The Meda product family is continuously being developed and expanded with new products. Vitra has been exploring the topics of sitting and working for more than 40 years. Long years of experience are incorporated into the development of all products.
The MedaBuddy High comes with a higher backrest. The addition of integrated height-adjustable lumbar support provides targeted and effective support for the lower back.
The armrests are adjustable in height and width and relieve the strain on muscles in the shoulder area.
The lumbar support (MedaBuddy High) can be adapted to the height and contour of the lower back. The individually adjustable synchronized mechanism ensures a harmonious movement sequence and promotes dynamic sitting. The body is optimally supported in all sitting positions. MedaBuddy and MedaBuddy High are equipped with a two-part backrest construction. Two aluminium backrest supports connect the seat cushion and back. They ensure stability and offer optimal support for the back when sitting. The organically shaped backrest made of highgrade polyamide allows a high degree of flexibility and thus guarantees exceptional seating comfort. The comfortable cushioning of the backrest provides optimal support in the lumbar area through its ergonomic form, consequently relieving the strain on the spine and back muscles and preventing a rounded back. The new profile seat is attached to the shaped shell with push buttons. The pelvis is automatically propped up by the indentation in the seat and the slight rise towards the back of the cushion. In combination with the body-conforming shape of the backrest, the lumbar area is optimally supported. In order to avoid pressure points, the seat edge is sloped in the front. As a result, the sitter s posture is auto matically correct and comfortable.
For Vitra, environmental, economic and social conduct begin with the individual. In order to develop, manufacture and market dependably long-lasting and environmentally sound products, Vitra complements this key factor of individual initiative with regular audits of the company s standards by independent review entities. The concern about a healthy environment at Vitra goes far beyond the selection of materials and the manufacturing processes. It is a topic that exerts far-reaching influence on all the company s activities. Since 1997, Vitra has been certified according to the DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001 standards for quality and environmental management.
