The Problem: In recent years, many studies have highlighted an alarming decline in young people s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math valid for many european countries. The negative trend is also noticeable in Hungary: 2012 - PISA servey
Several reasons contribute: - conservative and boring education - obsolete methods and equipment - fast changing education concepts - demotivated and confused students - schools can not raise curiosity
NEED new perspectives in science education: Raise curiosity! The participation of all stakeholders, including experts of science education, teachers, students, parents, scientists, engineers and their organisations, including schools, teacher and parent organisations, universities, research institutes, science museums, science centres, businesses and local authorities is a key factor for the success. This concept was the basic point when we dreamed up our event, called: Physics for everyone
Main idea: - a day when everything is connected to physics - to be arranged by the teachers and their students - the program according to their OWN ideas - experiments, especially NEW experiments are welcome - to involve everyone, from pre-school to university graduates - (almost) no central organization community organized - multiple locations no central event - the goal is to involve everyone, parents, children, students, companies - raise curiosity and awareness on science

Once the topic was set we found a generous sponsor: Tungsram Schréder Co. Offered 10 packages - containing 3 different lamps each: 1 Sodium-vapor lamp 1 Compact fluorescent lamp 1 LED lamp with mounting and safety equipment Software 10 schools received through tender!
No ordinary lamps: automatically raise interest when viewed in close A complete story can be built around it: Measure lighting efficiency (lumen/watt) is no easy task Measurement of lumen teaches mathematical concept (integral) Measuring device can be a mobile phone different phones give slightly different results Solving problem of flickering light emission (can fool a light meter) Measure spectrum without a spectrometer Designing street lighting with provided software Compare with existing one Based on the lumen/watt values calculate financial and environmental impact: Science is really useful!
