1 1 st BIENNALE 2014, April 9 11 Rotterdam, the Netherlands Global VPL Prize 2014 Case Study Template The Global VPL Prize awards best practices in any imaginable area of VPL each year. It s the story of VPL and its sustainable impact that counts. The 2014 edition focuses on VPL-stories that exhibit The power of VPL: The Power of VPL: developing and implementing Validation of Prior Learning in structured environments can strengthen the impact of VPL and dissemination to other less structured contexts. Case studies, especially good practices offer a window to this promise. So, what are the critical success factors for developing and implementing VPL? What are the problems to be tackled and how were they tackled? To whom did VPL appeal? What was the qualitative and quantitative impact? Please use the case study template (Sections A and B below) for your nomination to the Global VPL Prize In order to qualify for the prize, all categories must be filled in (except for Part B, sections 7 and 8). Your case study or studies should deal with a successful example of a VPL practice. Your case study can be situated in any given context and focused on any objective. We are interested in receiving a very practical feel of the practice(s) you can come up with in your country region, sector, community or organisation. Please attach any relevant evidence you can bring: interviews with candidates or members of a jury/evaluators/assessors, a videoed session of a VPL session, examples of a portfolio, working sheets, etc. You can fill in your case studies online on until March 11, 2014 and it will be considered for the Global VPL Prize 2014, which will be awarded to the winner at the 1 st VPL Biennale in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on April 11, You can also download the Case Study Template from in Microsoft Word format. Be creative and inspired!

Sustainability* How are the processes and impact of your case study sustained? How are they integrated into existing structures? 2

Which elements of your case study can be an appealing example to possibly other cases or can be transferred to other settings or contexts? 6. Stakeholders & actors* Which stakeholders were consulted for the set-up of the process? Who are the people/organisations responsible for the framework? Which actors are involved in shaping the running processes? What are their roles? In what ways are candidates involved in the process (if applicable)? N.B. A stakeholder is a partner in the case-study that has a responsibility in terms of policy, development and/or facilities (internal/external); an actor is a partner in the VPL-process that is actively involved in the implementation of VPL in practice. 7. How are they used? How important are they? Examples could be: Pre-entry process, information prior to the start of VPL process The VPL itself: examples of any tools developed: portfolios, working sheets, grids, CVs, recording made, evaluation schemes, sheets, reports.. You can attach evidence of the tools (any examples/recording, videos of any: leaflets, posters, links to websites, portfolios, working sheets, reports, ) when submitting your case study. 3
