After some delay harvest has started in all parts of Sweden The weather conditions in the south of Sweden have been close to perfect the last two weeks and harvest has been intense the last ten days. Harvest of rapeseed and rye is completed and farmers are now focusing on wheat and malting barley. Yields for grain in general and certainly malting barley are better than expected. Protein is somewhat lower than normal and there are also some problems with green kernels due to second growth. Last week harvest started also further up north in Harvest has been interrupted by some rain. In general winter wheat is more ready to cut than malting barley and still to make any clear statements about quality. Some malting barley has been cut in the western parts where acreage of winter wheat is much smaller than normal. Also in the west yields are promising but the protein on the low side due to the good yield levels and huge amounts of rain during the summer.
