Background of the Asia-Europe Foundation 1996: Inaugural Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit. 1997: ASEF was established under the framework of ASEM process. 2004: The partnership grew from 25 to 38 countries, plus the European Commission. 2007: ASEM welcomed 6 new partners: Bulgaria, Romania, India, Mongolia, Pakistan and ASEAN Secretariat (Total: 45 partners)

ASEF Mission ASEF seeks to promote mutual understanding, deeper engagement and continuing collaboration among the people of Asia and Europe through greater intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions.

ASEF Provides: Platform for Asia-Europe dialogues Permanent networks that reinforce Asia-Europe biregional relations Civil society outreach of ASEM Interface between civil societies and governments Contributions to ASEM Recommendations for officials consideration Ideas and solutions that would not normally emerge in purely civil society nor purely inter-governmental processes.

We deliver cross-cultural enrichment to participants from the two regions through conferences, lecture tours, workshops, seminars, and the use of web-based platforms.
