RESEARCH INTERESTS DURING MY PHD AND POSTDOC YEARS: Functional properties of single crystals and nanostructured thin films of metal oxides, especially titanium dioxide, with focus on model systems for energy conversion and catalysis, including functional interfaces in model systems for solar cell and lithium battery applications. Surface studies of Pd alloys for hydrogen separation, with focus on the formation and structure of surface oxides on these materials. Primary experimental techniques: Scanning probe microscopy (STM) and synchrotron based photoemission techniques (XPS and NEXAFS).
