Term: To be promoted to Assistant Professor for five years on April 1 st Reappointment possible after evaluation of performance. (Term of reappointment is 5 years. 3. Department: Field of Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry Laboratory) 4. Lectures and subjects in charge of: Responsible for Graduate and Undergraduate lectures, laboratory work and practicum (All conducted in Japanese language) pertaining to Analytical Chemistry. (Refer to Note 1) 5. Application Criteria 1) Possesses a doctorate and has been engaged in postdoctoral research for a while. 2) Interested in pursuing research and education in the synthesis and photochemical aspects of metal and organometallic complexes. Also, must be able to conduct lectures, laboratory work and practicum in Analytical Chemistry at undergraduate and graduate level. (Refer to note 2) 3) Note: Must be a female who is competent to fulfill the duties mentioned in point 2 above. (This measure is taken, in accordance with Article 8 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, to actively improve the relatively low percentage of female teaching staff) (Refer to Note 2) 4) Start immediately upon appointment. 6. 3 Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science. The teaching staff of the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory is currently made up of one Professor (56 years old), one Associate Professor (40 years old) and one Assistant Professor (35 years old). (All ages quoted correct as of October 31 st 2009) The main areas of research are 1) Photochemistry and spectroscopy of metal and organometallic complexes 2) Photochemical and chemical analysis in minute dimensions. ( Note 2: This recruitment is held under the Hokkaido University F3 project entitled For Brilliant Female Researchers: Affirmative Action Project to Establish and Advance Research Career in Hokkaido University" supported by 2009 Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology (Accelerated innovation of fostering system for female scientists) from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. This project has a clear aim to increase female faculty staff in the fields of science, technology and agriculture. The posts are therefore open only to female researchers (due to the proportion of female faculty in Hokkaido University being at only 8.6 %, far less than 40%, it is legal to perform such affirmative action and still comply with the equal opportunity law).
