INTRODUCTION What s inside this unique guide? This unique guide shows and tells you about the sea view campsites around Scotland, the Highlands and Islands. There are campsites perched on the edge of craggy cliff tops, and plenty alongside deserted sandy beaches lapped by crystal clear sea loch waters. With sites ranging from the largest holiday parks near major towns like Edinburgh to small, community-run sites less than 200 miles from the coast of Norway, all you have to do is decide upon where you want to go and be ready for a fantastic time as you explore the lochs, forests, moors and mountains. Barry Crawshaw embarked on a series of inspection tours searching out potential sea view campsites along the way. His brief was to include every campsite with a sea view, and as far as is possible that has been done. The result is that you are now reading the most comprehensive compilation of sea view campsites located around the Scottish mainland, the Inner and Outer Hebrides including the Isles of Skye and Mull, and the Orkney and Shetland Islands. To help you make informed choices, each listing includes a photo and a description of the sea view. The quality of the facilities and amenities are not formally judged, but are listed and commented upon. Where appropriate the local area and attractions are mentioned. Beach access is normally easy, but this is discussed as necessary. In addition, the location of the nearest pub, shop, beach and slipway is provided to further assist you. When available the campsite s own website address is provided. Should any updates or amendments be made known to us, these will be published at http://www.vicariousbooks.co.uk/guide_updates.shtml Oban

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE Campsite location The numbers printed on the map on page 15 identify and locate each campsite. The campsites are listed geographically and in map number order on pages 8-9. Coordinates were recorded at the site entrance, or sometimes the approach road/driveway, to prevent navigator error. Please note that postcodes often do not provide accurate destinations when used with satellite navigators. 13 OS grid references The six figure grid references provided refer to locations on the Ordinance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 sheet map series.
