Introduction Cellebrite s proprietary Forensic Memory Card Reader features an integral read-only switch enabling write-blocked memory card extraction and is equipped with a USB hub enabling extraction from USB mass storage devices. The Cellebrite Forensic Memory Card Reader complies with CE Technical Standard EMC Directive 2004/108/EC (EN55022/EN55024); and with FCC Technical Standard FCC Part 15 Class B (DoC) IC ICES- 003. This manual provides instructions on how to use the Cellebrite Forensic Memory Card Reader and how to obtain the best results. Description The Cellebrite Forensic Memory Card Reader is a multi format card reader that provides either read-only or read-write access to a variety of flash media cards. The USB hub is not influenced by activating the read-only (write-block) switch. The card reader supports the following media formats: Compact Flash Card type I & II (CFI & CFII) Mini Disk (MD) Memory Stick (MS) Smart Media Card (SMC) xd Memory card (xd) Secure Digital Media Card (SD) Multi Media Card (MMC) In addition, the card reader supports TransFlash, M2 and Micro SD card formats (with the use of adapters not supplied). 4

Device Layout Front Panel Contains four different card slots, to accommodate various card formats. Back Panel Contains three USB ports. Use of the read-only (write-block) switch has no effect on these ports. Left Panel Contains a USB 2.0 connector and the power cable connector. Right panel Contains the microsd/t- Flash/M2 connector and the Read-write/Read only switch. Use a mini USB cable (cable no. 80), to connect the reader to an available USB port on your computer. The following programs will automatically detect the device and no additional software is needed: Windows ME, 2000 SP4, XP, VISTA and OS X. 5

Using the Reader Ensure the reader had been set to the desired mode (i.e. read-only or read-write) before connecting the device to your computer. 1. Connect the reader to your computer s USB port with a mini USB cable and allow the system to detect the device. 2. Insert the flash media card in the appropriate slot in the reader. 3. For MS insert the card with metal contacts facing downwards and the notch to the left. 4. For MMC, SD, and SM insert the card with the metal contacts facing downward and the notch on the right. 5. For xd insert the card with metal contacts facing up. 6. For Compact Flash (CFI & CFII) or Micro Drives, insert the card with holes facing toward the reader. 7. Gently push the card all the way in. Safe Removal of the Reader 1. Select the device in the Windows system tray. 2. Click Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media. 3. Click Eject Mass Storage Device. 4. When the Safe To Remove Hardware prompt appears, remove the USB cable. 6

Changing Read-only, Read-write Functionality The Cellebrite Forensic Memory Card Reader can work either in readonly ( write-block mode) or as a read-write device. This function is set by a switch on the side of the reader. NOTE: To change functionality, disconnect the device from the computer. Changing the switch while the reader is connected to the computer will not change its functionality. NOTE: the USB hub is not influenced by the write-block switch. When the card is in read-only mode the front red LED will glow. The green LED device access light will glow when the system is communicating with the media. Offering The Forensic Memory Card Reader is provided as part of the UFED ruggedized system. It can also be purchased separately via the Cellebrite online shop.
