CH-SCI 6.2: HABITAT LAKE DISTRICT (Ulmiz) 2013-03-03 2013-03-23 6: Environment 8 18 99 16 99 Description: Our project partner is one of several farmers who are working on a long-term renaturation project together with the local authorities. The goal of the project is to create diverse natural habitats and to connect them to one another in order to promote a rich biodiversity in the Lake Murten region. The project partner has already created connection corridors with different habitats (brooks and ponds, hedges, deadwood, stone walls). Thereby, different endangered species have already returned to the region. In 2011 the project partner won the Deutschfreiburger Landschaftspreis. Type of Work: To go on with this project, there are various tasks to be done, like cutting hedges, digging ponds etc. Special knowledge whether in botany, survey of land, video technology or experience in handling machines is welcome but not compulsory. Study Theme: The project partner is very motivated to share his knowledge, to show you his observations and to let you participate in this project. Accommodation: In an old flat of the farm house. CH-SCI 1.2: TRANSIT CENTRE FOR REFUGEES (Volketswil) 2013-07-14 2013-07-27 1: Antiracism, Antifascism, Refugees and Ethnic Minorities 10 Description: Refugees who apply for asylum in are accommodated in so called transit centers for about 2-6 months. During this time their life is dominated by waiting and uncertainty about their future. They are not sure if they can stay or if they have to leave the country. In the transit centre in Volketswil live around 150 people, speaking many different languages, among them many families with children of all ages but also many young men and single women. The aim of this camp is to organize activities with and for them and to spend an interesting and joyful time with the asylum seekers. Type of Work: Priority activities are sports (jogging, football, volleyball etc), games, artistic and manual work with adults, teenagers and children. Study Theme: Asylum seekers. Accommodation: An apartment in or near the transit centre. Food included but own cooking. Language: The volunteers should send a motivation letter in English.
Requirements: High motivation, ability to take responsibility and doing something on your own initiative. Volunteers with interest in sports, artistic and/or manual skills are very welcome! CH-SCI 6.1: BIODYNAMIC FARM RATZENBERGLI (Niedermuhlern) 2013-07-21 2013-08-10 6: Environment 6 18 99 16 99 Description: The farm Ratzenbergli is on 900 meters above sea level in the hills near Berne. It is located beautifully in a lush, green valley with traditional Swiss farmhouses. The farm-community has a common base in the Anthroposophy and produces after the high standards of biodynamic agriculture. Two families with young children and three adults with special needs are living and working on the farm permanently. Milk from the barn, vegetables from the garden, freshly baked bread and a very heart-warming welcome by the two families what else can one possibly wish for?! Type of Work: Volunteers will construct a long dry stone wall in the garden, helping in vegetable gardening, on the fields (haying), cooking with the community and treat products from the farm. The work will be done together with people with special needs and experts. Some manual work will be physically demanding. Accommodation: In a building, in the straw or in a tent.

CH-SCI 1.1: HOLIDAYS FOR CHILDREN REFUGEES (Zinal VS) 2013-07-27 2013-08-10 1: Antiracism, Antifascism, Refugees and Ethnic Minorities 10 Description: The asylum sector of the social office of Valais organizes summer camps in the nature for about fifty asylum seekers children between 6 and 9 years the first week and about fifty asylum seekers children between 10 and 12 years the second week. Type of Work: Daily work in a group of around 7 children with the help of an assistant, participation in the creation of different activities, practical participation in the daily camp life. Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in the kids' holiday colony dormitories. Language: The volunteers should be fluent in French and send a motivation letter in French. Requirements: To be motivated, flexible and responsible to take care of the children during the days, the evenings and some over-night watch, appreciate community life, be creative, sportive and take initiatives during the games, activities and handicrafts, adapt to the multicultural aspect

10 18-99 18-99 Description: The Circus Lollypop and SCI organize a theatre week for kids from refugee centers in the canton Grison together with local kids. The aim of this integrative project is to give the possibility to kids from refugee centers to have a rich exchange of experiences with local kids and to improve their German language skills in a creative context. This will be accomplished with a mix of theatre playing, circus skills and games. At the end of the week (Friday), there will be a presentation of the work. About 60-70 kids between around 5 and 12 years old will participate in the project. Type of Work: In the preparation week (the first week of the workcamp), volunteers will receive an introduction to migration issues, theatre playing and animation with children and will prepare the activities for the second week together with the circus team. During the project week, volunteers will organize games and other activities for kids, accompany them from the refugee centers to the circus tents place, participate in the circus sessions and support the kids and the theatre expert with their help. Study Theme: During the first week, you will have introductions and discussions on thematically issues such as migration and asylum in and on peace work. This theoretical knowledge will be helpful for the concrete work with the children in the second week. Accommodation: In the first week simple accommodation with beds in a guesthouse are provided. In the second week volunteers sleep in tents or a caravan. Language: The camp language is German: level B1/B2 is required. A Skype-Interview might be required to test your language skills. If we realize here that the language skills are not sufficient, the participation can be cancelled. Local language is Swiss-German. Requirements: Have interest in migration and intercultural issues, taking responsibility when working with kids, be creative and participate in daily life. Notes: As this workcamp is part of a special project, there will be 5 international and 5 Swiss volunteers. Swiss volunteers are fully integrated in the group of volunteers and stay at the project place overnight.
