Valais Guitar Week From the 13 th until the 20 th of August 2011 the Valais Guitar Week will take place in Guttet-Feschel, Switzerland. Guttet-Feschel is a small mountain village in the Valaisregion, in the south of Switzerland. Guttet-Feschel is nearby Leukerbad. Leukerbad is a village which is famous for its thermal springs. High up in the beautiful Swiss mountains you will get masterclasses, workshops and ensemble playing. Next to this you will get the opportunity to discover the beauty of the Swiss landscape. Off course we can supply you with a hiking map. The Valais Guitar Week starts with a concert which will be performed by Alberto Mesirca and Duo NIHZ. The Valais Guitar Week will end with a concert in which all participants can perform. Both concerts will take place in churches with an excellent acoustic. During the Valais Guitar Week it is our main aim that you will be creative with your guitar in a relaxed and holiday-feeling environment. A regular day during the Valais Guitar Week A regular day during the Valais Guitar Week looks like this: 8.30 Breakfast 9.30 Ensemble playing 10.30-12.30 Masterclasses & workshops 12.30-13.15 Lunch 13.30-14.30 Masterclasses & Workshops 14.30-15.30 Extra Masterclasses & Workshops 19.00 Dinner As you can see there s a lot of guitar playing but also a lot of free hours!
Masterclasses, Workshops & Ensemble playing Masterclasses During the Valais Guitar Week a participant will get 2 times a 1 hour masterclass of Alberto Mesirca. During these 2 masterclasses you can decide yourself which music or exercises you wish to work on. During these masterclasses other participants are welcome to listen. Workshops Bobby Rootveld and Sanna van Elst (Duo NIHZ) will give workshops during the Valais Guitar Week. These workshops will be about different topics including: - guitar playing combined with stage-presence. Duo NIHZ can help you with your presentation, stage fright, how to set up a concert program, tips on how to study, how to promote yourself and how to organize concerts yourself. - Theatre Sport with the Guitar - Effective studying - Modern classical improvisation - Indian music and improvisation - Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Etc. Ensembles playing During the Valais Guitar Week there will be a lot of time for ensemble playing. At the beginning of the week a guitar ensemble will be formed. During the final concert this ensemble will be performing the pieces which they rehearsed during the week. Besides this you can also form duo s, trio s or quartets with other participants and get lessons with these formations. Off course, if you already play in a ensemble, your whole ensemble can attend the Valais Guitar Week! Ensembles Playing workshop Theatre Sport
The Teachers Alberto Mesirca Alberto Mesirca is one of the young masters on the classical guitar. This Italian virtuoso is appreciated throughout Europe for his fantastic guitar playing. Already on a young age he released several cd s and dvd s. Alberto got his lessons from Volpato, Lendle, Barrueco, Diaz, Kavanagh, Ogden, Pierri en Vieaux. He performed for television, radio and on guitar festivals throughout Europe. More information on www.myspace.com/mesirca. Duo NIHZ Together Bobby Rootveld on guitar and Sanna van Elst on recorders form Duo NIHZ. This ensemble is from the Netherlands. Sanna van Elst and Bobby Rootveld both got their degrees at the Artez Conservatory of Enschede, Holland. Duo NIHZ has a big repertoire including renaissance, baroque, romantic, Spanish, own compositions, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Avant-Garde and World Music. Often Duo NIHZ also collaborates with artists from other disciplines like dancers, storytellers and painters. Besides Chamber Music Duo NIHZ also performs with musictheatreprograms, children s concerts and programs on unexpected locations. Duo NIHZ performed for Dutch and Hungarian Television and Dutch National Radio. Duo NIHZ performed throughout Europe and Asia in concert halls, synagogues, churches and festivals. Festivals Duo NIHZ played include: Twents Guitar Festival, Pro Gitarre Festival, International Jewish Music Festival, Encs Guitar Festival, Calcutta Classical Guitar Festival, Bhutan Classical Guitar Festival, Alkmaar Guitar Festival Guitar Festival Nordhorn, Recorder Festival Nordhorn etc. Duo NIHZ released several cd s and dvd s. Further Information Location for the lessons All masterclasses and workshops will take place in Leckerei Shambala. The rooms are hosted by Geru Sigrist, Sytske Lanting and their daughter Durga Ananda. This family will also be providing the meals. On the picture below you can see Leckerei Shambala (the building with the 2 red cars in front). Meals Meals are included in the participation-fee of the Valais Guitar Week. During the Valais Guitar Week you will get 3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. All meals are vegetarian and will be served in Leckerei Shambala. Off course each meal will include a drink. All further food and drinks which you would like to consume you must buy yourself. During the evenings one can take some time for yourself or other possibilities are: Small concerts, play some pieces for each other in a relaxed atmosphere, Baroque dance, jam-session, enjoy stand-up comedy by Bobby Rootveld, or relax around the fire.
Sleeping During the Valais Guitar Week all participants will sleep in a beautiful Swiss chalet with view over the Rhone-valley. Please note: there are beds but you must bring your own sheets and towels. You will share your room with 1 or 2 other participants. On the picture below you can see the chalet. Transport Guttet-Feschel can be reached easily by car. You can also take the bus up from the train station of Leuk. If necessary we can pick you up from the station of Leuk when you arrive or bring you back there when you leave. If you want to visit Leukerbad during the Valais Guitar Week and there s no bus available, we can always see if we can bring you there and/or pick you up again. Arriving and departing the Valais Guitar Week Up from Saturday the 13 th of August 2011 you can arrive in Guttet-Feschel. Lessons will starting on Sunday the 14 th in the morning. On Saturday the 13 th of August Alberto Mesirca and Duo NIHZ will perform their concert in the early evening. On the 20 nd of August, after breakfast, will be departing time.
Participant Fee The fee which you will have to pay to join in at the Valais Guitar Week is 425,- Euro. Please Note: this amount is for your masterclasses and workshops, 3 meals a day, the sleeping and the two concerts. Traveling costs to and from Guttet-Feschel and further drinks and food you will have to pay yourself. Signing Up Do you want to participate? Then you will have to sign up. The second 200,- Euro must be transferred before the 1 st of June 2011. Please Note: Participants of 15 years and younger are not allowed to participate without grownups coming along with them. Cancel your reservation After signing up for the Valais Guitar Week cancelling your reservation can only be done by post. If you cancel, no matter what the reason is, we charge 25,- Euro administration costs. This means, if you already paid 225,- Euro, we will only transfer 200,- Euro back. If you cancel after the 1 st of may 2011 we charge 125,- Euro administration costs. If you cancel after the 1 th of June 2011 we charge 225,- Euro administration costs. If you cancel after the 1 st of July 2011 we charge the full amount of 425,- Euro.
