The large dog takes longer to reach maturity and starts to age more quickly than the smaller dog, so we have a specific programme for your dog which takes it from our standard puppy food to our Large Breed Junior food to our Large Breed Adult food at the correct age for his or her size (see the feeding guide). Proportionally, the large breeds have a smaller stomach than their smaller cousins, making them prone to the potentially serious problem of bloat/twisted stomach which is caused by eating too much too quickly, so our Large Breed Junior and Adult kibbles have a higher nutrient density meaning lower food intake and are physically much bigger than a standard kibble, slowing down the speed of eating. Finally, size and earlier aging of the large breeds can make them prone to joint stiffness in later years, so both Large Breed Adult and Large Breed Junior contain JW+, our joint support system based on glucosamine, chondroitin and natural herbs.

With selected unique protein source (turkey, lamb, duck or fish) and selected carbohydrate sources of rice and barley or oats, they are dietetic foods, excellent for the reduction of ingredient and nutrient intolerances. We suggest that the food be tried for a period of 3 to 8 weeks. If the signs of the food intolerance disappear, continue feeding indefinitely. Individual breeds vary tremendously in their food requirements and, even within the same breed, requirements will vary depending on the individual dog's lifestyle - the level of exercise he or she has. It is therefore important to feed to condition. For larger dogs, we recommend that they have their food split into multiple meals per day, that they should not be fed with other dogs, and that they should not be fed directly after strenuous exercise.
