AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 1. Open AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Imperial Go to the top left corner, where you see Click on the black arrow and check mark Show Menu Bar. This will show the menu bar that will be needed for the steps described below. 2. Create Surface from Google Earth File New Drawing choose template _AutoCAD Civil 3D (Imperial) NCS.dwt (NCS: National CAD Standards) Open Google Earth (c:\program Files (x86)\google\google Earth\client\googleearth.exe") In Google Earth, zoom in on location. In Civil 3D, File Import Import Google Earth Image and Surface (Left click to highlight surface) 3. Attach Google Earth Image to your Civil 3D drawing If your imported surface and image is missing its image it is because it saves it on the C: drive in an odd place (C:\AutoCADUserFiles\AutoDesk Local\C3D 2010\enu\****.jpg). Or on your own machine at C:\Documents and Settings\dlord\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2010\enu. You need to put this image with your working file and link the image to the contours. Save the jpg file to your network drive Command line: xref A box pops up. Select the paper with paper clip and choose attach image. Choose your image, specific insertion point and scale on screen. Create a new Alignment Alignments Create alignment by layout Name alignment: try1 alignment Alignment tool bars appears. 1 st options (left icon) Select Curve and spiral se ngs (if needed) (Change k values or curve length) Select Tan Tan w/ curves Draw a poten al alignment on the contour lines and image. Click for each curve and Press Enter at the end. 5. Create Surface Profile Profiles Create Profile from Surface Add >> Draw in profile view Next >> Next >> Next >> Next >> Create Profile View Click above the drawing to place the road profile up there. 6. Create Design Profile Profiles Create Profile by Layout Click on profile sheet Name the profile: try1 profile Click Profile Layout Tools Toolbar will appear 1 st option (left icon) Page 2
Curve Se ngs Crest & Sag curve length: Look up K values Click 1 st option Draw tangents with curves in the profile area start by clicking on the start and build your vertical profile by clicking. Hit Enter when done 7. Create Tool Palette General Tool Palettes Window Right click a tab choose add new Then, Corridors Subassembly Catalog A new window pops up and click on the image titled Corridor Modeling Catalogs (Imperial,.NET) Open Basic Assemblies Click on the for an object + drag it to our new pallet area (in your new tab that you opened above). You will now find (under the tab: Basic) 1. Basic Lane 2. Basic Curb and Gutter 3. Basic Side Slope Cut Ditch Available for use as your road assembly 8. Create Assembly Corridors Create Assembly Name: try1 assembly Click off the profile somewhere to place the basic lane assembly It zooms in on the line where we build the basic roadway Basic Lane (in your new Palette) Advanced (in the lane s design menu) Page 3
Side: Right Click on line to build right lane Side: Le Click on line to build le lane Similarly, add a shoulder + side slope Touch near edge you want to put the shoulder and side slope, Press confirm. 9. Build Corridor Enter, then click to Corridors Create corridor Click on your corridor on the plan sheet Click on your profile Click on your assembly Name: corridor try1 Press Your highway will be built. Alternatively, wait two or three seconds for each component. A small window will open beside your pointer showing the name of the element. Press Enter and click in the new opened window. 10. Earthwork Extract Datum: Le click on your corridor ( corridor try1 ) Right click brings up menu Select corridor proper es Go to Create a corridor surface button SURFACES tab Specify code = Datum Click + add surface item Page 4
