Healthy Walks and Cycle Rides We love our walks and rides and we hope you will too. We ve been organising them for 10 years and still have some of the same people coming, as well as lots of new people, so we guess we must be doing something right! They re great for meeting new friends, filling your lungs with fresh air and discovering new places in your local area. With Walking for Health, you can take part in a free short walk nearby to help you get active and stay active at a pace that works for you. New short walks: 10, 15 and 20 minutes long Walking for half an hour may be longer than you ve walked for a while but we ll be there to help you cover it. Plus there s no rush. In fact, walk at a pace that s right for you and take time to soak up the beauty of Elmbridge. Doesn t that sound do-able? Walking for Health walks are free, between 10 and 90 minutes long and less than 3 miles in length. Walks with this symbol are accredited and approved by the national Walking for Health programme. Volunteers: We want you. Yes, you If you enjoy walking and want to improve lives in your area, you sound like you d make a perfect Walking for Health walk leader. And if you re not perfect, no worries. We ll give you all the training and support you need to help you be top notch. Enjoy your local scenery, get to know your neighbourhood, make friends and get active! Did you know that many of our walks are on bus routes? Bus timetables are available from libraries or post offices. You can find the walk start points in three easy stages: 1. Go to: www.elmbridge.gov.uk home page. 2. Click on the events tab - all walks are listed in the calendar. Go to the relevant event. 3. Enter your postcode in the box on that page. You will be given a choice of getting to the start by public transport, foot or car. Questions? email leisure@elmbridge.gov.uk or telephone 01372 474574. We are here to help.

Pace, gradient and length of walk Walks are classified by pace, gradient and length of time. Make sure you fully enjoy the walk by choosing carefully. We often stop for coffee afterwards, to gather strength for the journey home! If you prefer longer, faster walks, or walks out of the Borough, you may enjoy walking with Ramblers, Go50 or Surrey Walks Club. Short If you are not a confident walker or returning to walking. Normally between 10 and 30 minutes, always on easy terrain, at a pace to suit you. Slow For those capable of walking continuously (2mph) Moderate For regular walkers who are reasonably fit and can maintain a steady pace (2.25-2.5 mph) for the duration of the walk. Brisk Nordic For those able to walk 3mph for the walk duration. Bring poles or walk without poles. All welcome. Cycle Rides, at a pace to suit all riders. Walk returns to start point part way round.
