Blanville Domaine Vineyard

Overview Location de Vieux de Chemin de Fer is a 6,0 hect. vineyard planted in a bauxite soil, at around 200 m of altitude, and overseing the Méditerranée sea. Located on the East side of the Saint-Pargoire village, the vineyard provides a breathtaking view of the Cévennes (North). The cultivated red grapes are : syrah, black grenache and white grenache. The bauxite terroir of the vineyard coupled with the Sea sprays give a lot of freshness and minerality to the wines. Like all BLANVILLE Domaines, the vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of «sustainable agronomy» proces 22.000 of Grès de Montpellier wines and 10.000 of white wine. Vineyard profile Vineyard profile Terroir : Very rocky bauxite soil of 6,0 hectares of vines sourrounded by garrigue plants, at 200 m of altitude overseeing the Mediterranée sea. Age of vines : average = 45 years Yiels : Average 25 Hl / hect Grape variety : Syrah, black grenache, carignan, white grenache Planting density : 5.000 vinestock / hectare Environmental integrity : Natural, sustainable agronomy Cultivation and harvesting : Royat cut, pruning, several plowing of soil per year, debudding in spring, thinning by hand, manual harvest Vinification : Done per parcel and varietal, pre-fermentation cold maceration performed, temperature controlled vats used, slow vatting done over a period of 3 to 5 weeks (depending on the vintage characteristics) Ageing : Wines are aged in barrels per parcel and varietal Blending and natural decanting : At the end of the barrel raising period, the wine is blended with the corresponding parcels and varietals, it is then decanted naturally for several months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Aging in bottles : Wines are aged in the cellar for a minimum of 6 months

White Wines About Grés de Montpellier appellation At the foot of the Cévennes mountains, an amphitheatre of vineyards encircle the city of Montpellier and overlook the Mediterranean Sea. These estates are located in a temperate climate zone with a thermal amplitude enabling the fruit and their tannins to mature softly and in a well-balanced manner. The name Grés comes from the Occitan word for pebbles, gravels and other stones. It was created in 2003 and currently numbers 50 winegrowers, 46 villages and 4 terroirs. Major grape : White grenache, Parcel size : 2 hectares Age of the vines : 50 years Bottles proced : 10 000 Vinification : fermentation in old barrels, with multiple bâtonnages per day Aging : 6 months in old French oak barrels Blanville has chosen the most desirable plots of this hilly area to proce the fine, delicate and elegant red wines that best characterise Grés de Montpellier.
