SECTION 15412 PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this section. B. Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods sections apply to work of this section. 1.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. Extent of soil and waste systems work, is indicated on drawings and schedules, and by requirements of this section. B. Applications for soil and waste piping systems include the 1. Aboveground soil, waste and vent piping within buildings, including soil stacks, vent stacks, horizontal branches, traps, and connections to fixtures and drains. 2. Underground building drain piping including mains, branches, traps, back water valves, connections to fixtures and drains, and connections to stacks, terminating at connection to sanitary sewers outside inner face of foundation wall. C. Refer to appropriate Division-15 sections for exterior sanitary sewer system required in conjunction with soil and waste systems; not work of this section. D. Insulation for soil and waste systems is specified in applicable Division-15 sections, and is included as work of this section. E. Trenching and backfilling required in conjunction with underground building drain piping is specified in applicable Division-15 sections and is included as work of this section. F. Refer to other Division-15 sections for sump pumps and sewage ejectors; not work of this section. 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer's Qualifications: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of soil and waste systems products of types, materials and sizes required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than 10 years. B. Installer's Qualifications: Firm with at least 10 years of successful installation experience on projects with soil and waste systems work similar to that required for project. C. Codes and Standards: 1. Plumbing Code Compliance: Comply with applicable portions of State and Local Plumbing Codes pertaining to plumbing materials, construction and installation of products. 2. ANSI Compliance: Comply with applicable ANSI standards pertaining to materials, products, and installation of soil and waste systems. 3. PDI Compliance: Comply with applicable PDI standards pertaining to products and installation of soil and waste systems. 1.04 SUBMITTALS 1415.31 CD Pricing/Permit; April 24, 2008 15412-1

A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data for soil and waste systems materials and products. B. Record Drawings: At project closeout, submit record drawings of installed soil and waste systems, in accordance with requirements of Division 1. C. Maintenance Data: Submit maintenance data and parts lists for soil and waste systems materials and products. Include this data, product data, and record drawings in maintenance manual; in accordance with requirements of Division 1. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS A. General: Provide piping materials and factory-fabricated piping products of sizes, types, pressure ratings, and capacities as indicated. Where not indicated, provide proper selection as determined by Installer to comply with installation requirements. Provide sizes and types matching piping and equipment connections; provide fittings of materials which match pipe materials used in soil and waste systems. Where more than one type of materials or product is indicated, selection is Installer's option. 2.02 BASIC PIPES AND PIPE FITTINGS A. General: Provide pipes and pipe fittings complying with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Pipes and Pipe Fittings," in accordance with the following listing: B. Above Ground Soil, Waste, and Vent Piping: 1. Tube Size 8" and Smaller: Copper tube; Type DWV; Cast-bronze fittings, drainage pattern, solder-joint. 2. Pipe Size 15" and Smaller: Cast-iron hub-and-spigot soil pipe; service weight; Cast-iron, hub-and-spigot soil pipe fittings, compression gasket joints. 3. Pipe Size 8" and Smaller: Hubless cast-iron soil pipe; Service weight; Hubless cast-iron soil pipe fittings, hubless joints. 4. Pipe size 8 and smaller: Plastic pipe and fittings according to the Minnesota plumbing code section 4715.0580 except where otherwise noted below. For use where no horizontal drain may exceed 35 feet in total length and no stack may exceed 35 ft in total height. Schedule 40 unthreaded. For use in chemical use areas. Plastic pipe not allowed in plenum spaces, parking garage, office ceiling spaces, corridors, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, elevators, vestibules, stair wells, exposed areas, Plastic joints installed with color coded solvent and primer according to MN Plumbing Code 4715.2820. C. Underground Building Drain Piping: 1. Pipe Size 15" and Smaller: Cast-iron hub-and-spigot soil pipe; Cast-iron hub-and-spigot soil pipe fittings, compression gasket joints. 2. Pipe size 10 and Smaller: No-Hub cast iron soil pipe, service weight, hubless cast iron soil pipe fittings, no-hub wide band underground joint assembly. 3. Pipe size 15 and smaller: Plastic pipe and fittings according to the Minnesota plumbing code section 4715.0550. Schedule 40 unthreaded. Plastic pipe not allowed in plenum spaces, and exposed locations. Plastic pipe to be used in chemical use areas. D. Underground Building Drain Piping Sleeve Passing Through Walls: 1415.31 CD Pricing/Permit; April 24, 2008 15412-2

1. Pipe Sleeve Size 15" and Smaller: Ductile iron pipe, class 150; cast iron hub-andspigot pipe fittings, compression gasket joints. Note: Ductile iron pipe sleeve shall be installed through any below grade foundation wall or pipe tunnel wall and for a minimum distance of five feet either side of the wall. 2.03 BASIC PIPING SPECIALTIES A. General: Provide piping specialties complying with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Piping Specialties," in accordance with the following listing: 1. Pipe Escutcheons. 2. Mechanical Sleeve Seals. 3. Fire Barrier Penetration Seals. 4. Drip Pans. 5. Pipe Sleeves. 6. Sleeve Seals. 2.04 FROST-PROOF VENT CAPS A. General: Provide frost-proof vent caps with 1" air space between outside of vent pipe and inside of flashing collar extension. Construct of galvanized iron, copper, or lead-coated copper. B. General: Provide supports and anchors complying with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Supports and Anchors" in accordance with the following listing: 1. Adjustable steel clevis hangers, steel pipe clamps, and pipe saddle supports for horizontal piping hangers and supports. 2. Two-bolt riser clamps for vertical piping supports. 3. Concrete inserts, C-clamps, and steel brackets for building attachments. 2.06 BACKWATER VALVES A. General: Provide cast-iron body, bronze fitted backwater valve assembly. Hang flapper in such manner to provide maximum 1/4" clearance between flapper and seat for air circulation. Provide ends to suit piping material; bolted cover. B. Where not indicated, provide proper selection as determined by Installer to comply with installation requirements and governing regulations. B. Cleanout Plugs: Cast-bronze or brass, threads complying with ANSI B2.1, countersunk head. C. Floor Cleanouts: Cast-iron body and frame; cleanout plug; adjustable round top as follows: 1. Nickel-Bronze Top: Manufacturers standard cast unit of the pattern indicated: a. Pattern: Exposed rim type, with recess to receive 1/8" thick resilient floor finish. b. Pattern: Exposed rim type, with recess to receive 1" thick terrazzo floor finish. c. Pattern: Exposed finish type, standard mill finish. d. Pattern: Exposed flush type, standard non-slip scored or abrasive finish. 2. Cast-Iron Top: Manufactured standard cast iron uit of the pattern indicated: a. FD-1: Coated cast iron floor drain, two piece body with double drainage flange, flashing collar, weepholes, bottom outlet inside caulk connection and adjustable 5 satin bronze round strainer with internal bronze backwater valve. Cast iron P-trap. Josam 30000-AJ Series or Wade W-1100-BV or equal. Exclude back water valve on floor drains serving above grade floor levels. C. FD-2: Same as floor drain FD-1 with 8 nickel bronze round strainer, sediment bucket. Exclude backwater valve at above grade floor drains. D. FD-3: Same as floor drain FD-1 with vandal resistant screws, W/O backwater valve. F. HD-1: Hopper Drain "H.D.": Stainless Steel floor drain with square body and removable hinged grate plus secondary strainer. Deep seal trap and backwater valve. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION A. Examine substrates and conditions under which soil and waste systems are to be installed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to Installer. 3.02 INSTALLATION OF ABOVEGROUND PIPING A. General: Install soil and waste piping in accordance with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Pipes and Pipe Fittings," and with State and Local Plumbing Codes. 3.03 INSTALLATION OF BUILDING DRAIN PIPING A. General: Install underground building drains as indicated and in accordance with State and Local Plumbing Codes. Lay underground building drains beginning at low point of systems, true to grades and alignment indicated with unbroken continuity of invert. Place bell ends of piping facing upstream. Install required gaskets in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations for use of lubricants, cements, and other special installation requirements. Clean interior of piping of dirt and other superfluous material as work progresses. Maintain swab or drag in line and pull past each joint as it is completed. Place plugs in ends of uncompleted piping at end of day or whenever work stops. B. Install soil and vent piping pitched to drain at minimum slope of 1/4" per foot (2%) for piping 3" and smaller, and 1/8" per foot (1%) for piping 4" and larger. 1415.31 CD Pricing/Permit; April 24, 2008 15412-5

C. Install 2" thick extruded polystyrene over underground building drain piping not under building. Provide width to extend minimum of 18" beyond each side of pipe. Install directly over pipe, centered on pipe center line. 3.04 INSTALLATION OF PIPING SPECIALTIES A. Install piping specialties in accordance with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Piping Specialties." B. Frost-Proof Vent Caps: Install frost-proof vent caps on each vent pipe passing through roof, and elsewhere where indicated. Maintain 1" clearance between vent pipe and roof substrate. 3.05 INSTALLATION OF SUPPORTS AND ANCHORS A. Install supports and anchors in accordance with Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Supports and Anchors." 3.06 INSTALLATION OF BACKWATER VALVES A. Install backwater valves in sanitary building drain piping as indicated, and as required by State and Local Plumbing Codes. For interior installation, provide cleanout cover flush to floor centered over backwater valve cover, and of adequate size to remove valve cover for service. 3.07 INSTALLATION OF EXPANSION JOINTS A. Install expansion joints on vertical risers as indicated, and as required by National Standard Plumbing Code. 3.08 INSTALLATION OF DRAINAGE PIPING PRODUCTS A. Cleanouts: Install in above ground piping and building drain piping as indicated, as required by State and Local Plumbing Codes; and at each change in direction of piping greater than 45 ; at minimum intervals of 50' for piping 4" and smaller and 100' for larger piping; and at base of each vertical soil or waste stack. Install floor and wall cleanout covers for concealed piping, select type to match adjacent building finish. B. Flashing Flanges: Install flashing flange and clamping device with each stack and cleanout passing through waterproof membranes. C. Vent Flashing Sleeves: Install on stacks passing through roof, secure over stack flashing in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. 3.09 INSTALLATION OF FLOOR DRAINS A. General: Install floor drains in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions and in locations indicated. B. Coordinate flashing work with work of waterproofing and adjoining substrate work. C. Coordinate with soil and waste piping as necessary to interface floor drains with drainage piping systems. D. Install floor drains at low points of surface areas to be drained, or as indicated. Set tops of drains flush with finished floor. E. Install drain flashing collar or flange so that no leakage occurs between drain and adjoining flooring. F. Position drains so that they are accessible and easy to maintain. 3.10 INSTALLATION OF TRAP PRIMERS A. General: Install trap primers as indicated, and in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions. Pitch piping towards drain trap, minimum of 1/8" per foot (1%). Adjust trap primer for proper flow. 3.11 EQUIPMENT CONNECTIONS A. Piping Runouts to Fixtures: Provide soil and waste piping runouts to plumbing fixtures and drains, with approved trap, of sizes indicated; but in no case smaller than required by the State and Local Plumbing Codes. B. Locate piping runouts as close as possible to bottom of floor slab supporting fixtures or drains. 3.12 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Piping Tests: Test soil and waste piping system in accordance with requirements of the State and Local Plumbing Codes. 3.13 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Clean, flush, and inspect soil and waste piping in accordance with requirements of Division-15 Basic Mechanical Materials and Methods section "Pipes and Pipe Fittings." 3.14 PROTECTION A. Protect drains during remainder of construction period, to avoid clogging with construction materials and debris, and to prevent damage from traffic and construction work.
