The Aalborg Model for Problem Based Learning (PBL) Studying at Aalborg University is not about rote learning. Each semester, you will work closely together with a group of fellow students on a large written assignment. The study method is called problem based project work, or The Aalborg Model for Problem Based Learning (PBL), and is highly recognised both nationally and internationally. The problem based project work at Aalborg University gives you a unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge and competences at a high academic level in an independent manner. You will also follow more traditional instruction, but the group work at AAU ensures that you build a network from the very start of your studies, and that you will not constantly be sitting on your own buried in your books. The group work adds an academic and social dimension to your study programme and, at the same time, it equips you for the labour market where skills in cooperation are very sought after. Group Work at Aalborg University At Aalborg University, students usually do their problem based project work in groups. Typically, you will be part of a group consisting of 4-5 students. Each semester, the group completes a large assignment called a project. You form the groups yourselves depending on your academic interests. The group work ensures a great variety of approaches and perspectives, which results in a sound and thoroughly prepared project. Together, you are able to discuss the details thoroughly. At the same time, you are able to solve larger and more complex problems than if you were studying on an individual basis. Each of you has the opportunity to shape the project because group work requires that everyone contributes. If you have any academic questions you may also discuss these with your friends in the group. To learn more about the PBLmodel and the group work, please visit the following webpage: www.studyguide.aau.dk/aalborg-pbl-model
