2 Why a demand for new academic qualifications? A new generation new users demands and expectations. Longevity among older people. Academic competence needed to undertake specialisation in health practices. Less in hospital stay and increased outpatient clinics and home care. Communication between hospital and other health sectors urge for technological development. Inter-disciplinary nationally/internationally cooperation a necessity. 2

4 Target group Nurses in primary and secondary health care positions In other words: Nurses who work in hospitals and in local authorities: health care workers, nurses in care facilities for older people, in health centres, in general practice, in hospices and in patients homes, and those working in the teaching sector. 4

7 The scope of the programme Two years full-time study 120 ECTS points 7

8 Purpose To further develop and strengthen the student s academic competencies, by: extending the student's academic knowledge and skills and enhancing their theoretical, methodological skills and competencies. giving the student training in scientific work and methods, which further develops the student's ability to perform in more complex and specialised patient situations and advanced professional functions and to participate in scientific development work, both independently and in multidisciplinary contexts. providing students with competencies and increased knowledge in the content and development of health technology and its applications in clinical nursing practice. qualifying the student for further training, including graduate education at PhD level, see Executive Order regarding PhD Programmes at Universities. 8

9 Masters Programme at the University of Southern Denmark Clinical Nursing and Health Technology The content is organised according to: Subject area: people of all ages in relation to health, illness, environment and society. Core Areas: Health promotion, prevention, rehabilitation, care and treatment and palliative care. 9

10 What is the need for a new Competence Profile for the next 10 years? Preliminary responses from consultations with potential purchasers in the Region of Southern Denmark and West Zealand regarding: Knowledge, Skills and Compentencies 10

11 Knowledge Issues involved in the implementation of clinical nursing practice: Societal, organisational, managerial and health economical. Health technology and telemedicine and their application in practice. Theoretical positions, ethics and methodological development and research approaches in relation to problems in clinical practice. Communication and dissemination in Clinical practice. Project management, process management, self management and levels of leadership in clinical practice. 11

12 Skills Systematic literature searches. Investigate, evaluate and argue on a scientific basis. Initiate, organise and manage quality development in clinical practice. Plan, implement and manage inter-disciplinary collaboration in clinical practice. Critically evaluate health education principles and methods in relation to user involvement and patient education. Disseminate knowledge on scientific, professional and general levels. Initiate project work and participate in research. 12

13 Competencies Identify, critically reflect, evaluate and act on a evidence based knowledge level related to clinical nursing directed towards healthcare, health promotion, prevention, rehabilitation and palliative care, including incorporating ethical considerations: Undertake complex tasks within the nursing sphere of activity in primary and secondary sectors. Assess, initiate and implement nursing, health technology and telemedicine initiatives. Participate in nursing as well as inter-disciplinary research, development projects and take responsibility for delegated tasks. Disseminate knowledge and monitor public health developments to clinical practice. Undertake management, education, training functions and communication. 13
