IMPORTANT INFORMATION To prevent damages and injuries caused by improper use and not to compromise the warranty and liability: Follow all instructions in this manual at all times. Guarantee If the equipment is used in a normal manner and according to all instructions in this manual, it will perform well for many years. TAWI offers a one year limited guarantee, excluding transportation charges, provided the lifting device has been used under normal working conditions (1 shift) and in accordance with the instructions in this manual. Please contact info@tawi.com or your TAWI dealer for further instructions. Complete contents of this Guarantee can be downloaded at www.tawi.com. Product description This Protema lift is used to transport goods without straining the users back. The lift is equipped with a battery driven loading platform or rollhandling tool that allows goods to be raised and lowered. The user moves the lift by pushing it, and prevents it from moving when stationary with the aid of brakes. To charge the battery, the lift is connected to an electrical outlet (100-240 V). The battery is fully charged after 8 hours. The Protema lift can be plugged in for a longer period, since it cannot be overcharged. Installation and preparation Non-compliance with the following rules and instructions in this manual will result in complete exclusion of TAWI s liability. Make certain that the correct power cord for your country is installed on the lift. If not, see Technical Service. Plug the power cord into an electric outlet and charge the battery for 8 hours. Pull the power cord out of the electric outlet. Check the lift for safe functonality prior to each use: Make sure that the battery is charged before use. (For instructions see details for your model under DATA.) Turn the power on by pressing the main switch. Make sure that the tape switches on the legs are functioning properly. Move the empty platform to the top position and press the tape switch. The buzzer sounds. If the buzzer fails to sound, have the tape switches repaired prior to using the lift. (All models are not equipped with tape switches, check details for your model under DATA.) Make certain that the wheels rotate smoothly. Make certain that the brakes on the rear wheels are functioning properly. (Some models are equipped with a central brake, check details for your model under DATA.) The lifts are equipped with a peak load controller which will prevent the loading platform from being raised or lowered when the specified maximum capacity is exceeded (does not apply for models PRO40 and PRO 70). The load must be reduced and, on some models, the main switch reset before further use. (Check details for your model under DATA.) Lifters PRO40 and PRO70 are not equipped with a peak load controller, instead they have an electromechanical fuse which features both overload protection and an automatic main switch function. Notice that they have a higher tolerance when monitoring capacity of liter. The Protema lifter should only be used when it is in perfect working order. Battery information Battery type: Maintenance-free, totally sealed lead acid battery. IMPORTANT! Used battery/circuit board should either be returned to an authorised TAWI/Protema representative or handed over to a station for chemical waste. All other parts can be discarded and assorted for recycling. General Intermittent-duty: 15% Stability: Compatible with standard SMS2986 Approved by: Inspecta, SEMKO Lift is in compliance with the EC machine directives on safety: 2006/42/EC. According to type certificate: 12-SKM-CM-0110, SEMKO9702013. The following standards apply: 2006/42/EC, 91/368/EEC, SS EN ISO 12100-1, SS EN ISO 12100-2, EN60204-1, EN50081-1, EN50082-1. SERVICE TAWI recommends that service be carried out on a yearly basis. In many countries this is mandatory. For more info see chapter SAFETY, MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS. 3

SAFETY, MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS Do not use the lift while it is plugged into an outlet. Do not use as a passenger lift! Do not stand underneath the raised platform. When in motion, lower the load so that it is level with the moving position sticker on the side of the mast. WARNING! Risk of hands and feet getting caught in machine! Do not stand on or rest your feet on the legs or battery casing. Do not put hands or fingers on the mast or close to the sleigh or chain, risk of catching! Stay clear of the indicated area at all times! Make sure the area underneath the tool/ platform is always completely clear. If the platform gets caught on an object during descent there is a risk of the lift falling. The lift is meant to be used during a normal work shift (1 shift) and re-charged during off hours (normally night time). Always charge minimum 8 hours consecutively. The battery cannot be overcharged. The machine is made for indoor use on smooth, even floor/surface. Use caution when passing over thresholds, floordrains, hoses or cables. Never spray or pour water onto the casing containing the battery, charger and motor. Clean with a damp cloth only. Recharge in a designated dry area. Always apply the brakes when loading or unloading. NEVER exceed the indicated max load capacity. If a special tool has been requested there may be a separate max load capacity indicated on the tool. The limit indicated on the tool must always be followed. The max load capacity is stated for a certain load WITH CENTRE OF LOAD PLACED AT A CERTAIN MAIMUM DISTANCE FROM THE MAST. See DATA for further instructions on your lift. Make sure to have the brakes on when using the Protema lift to pick up and drop gods. Not using the brakes may cause the Protema lift to tilt backwards and consequently causing the operator serious injuries or death. Load must never be forced downward when hitting a surface. Doing so may cause the lift to tip onto the operator, causing body injuries. Use the Protema lift only in accordance with all instructions in this manual. Keep this manual accessible to all staff. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Use only TAWI/Protema original spare parts. Any part of this Protema lift which shows signs of wear or other damage must be replaced immediately. The lift must not be used before the damaged part is replaced. A damaged power cord may only be replaced by authorised service staff from the manufacturer or recommended by the manufacturer. Welding and other mechanical modifications to the Protema lift must be carried out by TAWI authorised staff. Always follow any local/national recommendations as well as the instructions in this manual. In some countries the inspection of lifting equipment by a third party, after installation and then on a yearly basis, is mandatory. Check the regulations in your country. 4

Place your hand on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the handle to pull the handle TOWARDS yourself. Use your free hand to release the safety spring. 2. Lower the coregripper into the core (max position indicated on tool) and lift the extractor handle out of its slot using both hands. Check the grip function by slowly lifting appr 10 cm to make sure that the core is gripped safely. 3. APPLY BRAKE TO REAR WHEELS BEFORE HANDLING THE ROLL. Lift the roll up using the up/down motion of the lift. c 7. ALWAYS transport the roll with the core placed horizontally. Lower the roll to the transportation mark on the mast of the lift. CORRECT end position (opposite part of handle has been used to rotate the roll.) INCORRECT end position (closest part of handle has been used to rotate the roll.) RISK OF HAND CATCHING BETWEEN LIFT AND TOOL! 9

INSTRUCTIONS FOR EASYSQUEEZE The entire squeezing device is mounted on a heavyduty swivel-unit that can be pivoted 90 degrees each way. CONTROLS PRO100ESE EasySqueeze: 3. By pressing the two individually operated control switches, the arms will be pressed against the surface of the roll. Press the switches until the arms come to a complete stop. 4. Double-check to make sure that all the rollers are pressed against the surface of the roll. If they are not, repeat step three. 5. Lift the roll with the lifting switch without touching the switches for the squeezing device. The controls for squeezing together/ forcing apart the arms consist of 2 flip buttons that symbolise the movement of the arms and function independently. Consequently, the goods can be picked up off-centre. A safety button located on the right side of the squeeze-controls must be pressed when the arms need to be opened (2 hand release) in order not to drop the roll, or goods by mistake. CONTROLS PRO200ESE EasySqueeze: 6. When the roll is lifted approx. 2 feet above the pallet, one can rotate the roll 90 degrees by undoing the locking mechanism. The roll will now rest on one of the arms. This is to ensure that the load is secured during transportation. Always secure the load in the manner described above when moving the lifting device. Drop of at machine 1. Before turning the roll back 90 degrees when dropping it off, squeeze the arms one last time to ensure a secure grip. 2. When the above is performed, the roll can be turned to the desired position and locked. The controls for squeezing together/forcing apart the arms consist of 2 sets of push-buttons. Controls on the left side: Left (red)=turn LEFT Right (green)=turn RIGHT. Controls on the right side: Left (green)=open ARMS Right (red)=close ARMS. A safety button located on the right side of the squeeze-controls must be pressed when the arms need to be opened (two-hand release) in order not to drop the roll, or goods by mistake. When picking from a pallet 1. In order to reach all positions on the pallet, one should lift the pallet with a forklift truck. 2. Lower the arms over the roll and center them both in height and depth in order for the rollers to be placed symmetrically on the roll you want to lift. 3. The entire roll can now be turned forward in order to position the hole in the proper position. 4. When the roll is securely on the spindle, it can be released by separating the control switches and pressing the safety button. IMPORTANT! EasySqueeze can be rotated 90 clockwise or counterclockwise. The rotation can be stopped anywhere between the end positions. Push red button beside left handle to turn counterclockwise. Push green button beside left handle to turn clockwise. When the roll is securely on the spindle, it can be released by separating the control switches and pressing the safety button. Do NOT turn electrical turn when you have secured the roll on the spindle. 10

INSTRUCTIONS sleigh/t-bar adjustment PRO120/150 and Quick Coupling installation Quick coupling installation The series of pictures below (1-6) illustrate how to install a quick coupling unit on your lift. (Available accessory for PRO70/120/150.) Adjusting min/max lifting height on the PRO120/150 The platforms and accessories for the PRO120/150 can be attached to achieve a higher or lower max and min lifting height. If the platform is placed further up on the sleigh, it will reach a higher max lifting height AND a higher min lifting height. If the platform is attached further down on the sleigh, you can achieve a min lifting height from ground level and the max lifting height will decrease accordingly. (See pictures 2 and 3 for further info.) 1. To attach a quick coupling unit to the PRO120: Attach the sleighpart of the quick coupling to the T-bar. Attach the assembled parts to the sleigh. 2. MAKE SURE that the complete T-bar is pushed down into the sleigh. 3. Note that the platform max and min lifting heights vary depending on WHERE on the T-bar you put the screws. 4. Attach the platform-part of the quick coupling to the platform. 5. The two parts of the quick-coupling unit are assembled by lifting the platform on to the quick-release bar from the top and downwards. 6. The black stop bolt will make sure that the platform stays in place, and must be released (pulled out) to remove the platform. 11
