Preface ISTA started off as a Middle-East-European enterprise in 2001. Because of it success it was globalized and went to Salt Lake City (2004) and Palmerston North (2005). Its program committee continuously was internationalized. ISTA now a fully international conference. ISTA was supposed to help colleagues from the Middle-East-European newly independent states to catch up (where necessary) with Western colleagues in the area of information systems. The papers in this volume indicate that this idea is becoming real and stimulate fruitful discussions. To the ISTA 2005 conference there were submitted 45 full papers. Many of these papers were reviewed by more than 3 reviewers. Based on these reviews 15 full papers were selected that are contained in this proceedings. Also 3 short papers are contained, as they too were found worth of being discussed. In the first place the authors of submitted and invited papers deserve credits. They are listed below. The program committee helped selecting a hopefully interesting couple of papers for ISTA 2005. All reviewers are likewise listed below. Behind the scenes further people helped to manage things. Julie Lions helped a lot in all sorts of paper-work related issues. Sergiy Zlatkin was a great aid regarding the sometimes difficult to solve organizational and communicational problems concerning the trips of the Ukrainian colleagues attending ISTA 2005. The ISTA steering committee again helped raising the travel funds for the Ukrainians attending ISTA 2005. Palmerston North, Klagenfurt, Provo, April 2005 Roland Kaschek, Heinrich C. Mayr, and Stephen Liddle.
