3 The Case of Germany International Students in Germany: How many? 200 % % International Students ( ) % % 105% German Students ( ) In addition there are Students with foreign passports but who are permanent residents in Germany and have graduated at a High School in Germany (so called "Bildungsinländer"). During the past seven years the number of International Students has risen by 70% and now reaches the political target of 10% of the total student body. Germany is now the third largest host country for international Students. The number of German Students will rise by up to 20% during the next decade.

4 Germany as a Destination for Internationally Mobile Students 246,334 international students in Germany in 2005 = 12.5% of total student body comes from abroad 9.5% of all students are Bildungsausländer Ł Goal for 2008: 10,0% Bildungsausländer (students who had secondary education abroad) Half of the international students in Germany come from Europe China is the leading country of origin for international students in Germany Russia is No. 4 country of origin for international students in Germany: 2005: approximately Russian students equalling 5.1% of the international student body in Germany
