CONTEST RULES PURPOSE OF THE CONTEST The purpose of the second Matimex International Architecture Prize is creation of innovative, creative proposals inspired by reflection on the Architecture of Knowledge. The intention is to encourage the birth of new ideas for architectural spaces linked with knowledge in the broadest sense of the term. The creation, transmission and discussion of knowledge requires spaces suitable for a changing society and for the new forms of communication. To facilitate participation and offer inspiration for the projects, we propose three open project categories. GENESIS or CREATION. Any place for creation and reflection, including: Workspaces. Research facilities. Laboratories. Artists studios. LEARNING. Spaces for education at all levels: Nurseries. Kindergartens Primary and secondary schools. Laboratories and training centres. Universities. Vocational institutes. TRANSMISSION. Spaces for displaying and transmitting knowledge, in public or private form: 2016 2

Museums. Libraries. Conference rooms. Meeting rooms. Theatres. The three types do not correspond to particular design categories. The spaces presented in each of them are non-binding. Basically, contestants are asked to design a new space or renovate an existing space with a project responding to the new requirements of creation, learning and /or transmission of knowledge. Projects submitted may be mere ideas, built projects, or projects prepared earlier which have been changed using Fiandre Iris Ceramica Group materials. TYPE OF CONTEST The Matimex International Architecture Prize is an international architecture contest for professionals and students who create projects using Fiandre Iris Ceramica Group materials. It is a private contest for ideas, with the participation of a Jury, in an open procedure, in anonymous form and in a single stage. Proposals must include plans for an indoor or outdoor space, an overall view of a building, or a focus on particular spaces which are part of a larger complex. The project must be accompanied by a brief theoretical and graphic report describing the analytic / creative process that led to the final solution. Projects submitted must include materials made by the Fiandre Iris Ceramica Group, which will form a consistent, integral part of the projects; projects must make use of large ceramic slabs from at least one of the collections listed below: Fiandre Maximum. (http://www.granitifiandre.es/gres-porcelanico/ceramica-tecnica/maximum) Iris Hilite. (http://www.irisceramica.es/collezioni.php?categoria=grandi_lastre) FMG Maxfine. (http://www.irisfmg.es/collezione.php?coll=maxfine#doveusarli) Ariostea Ultra. (http://ultra.ariostea.it/) Porcelaingres Just Great. (http://www.porcelaingres.com/prodotti.php?id_menu=tiles) 2016 3

Eiffelgres Megamicro. (http://www.eiffelgres.es/colecciones/) Other sizes and styles of Fiandre Iris Ceramica Group ceramic products may also be used. Appropriate use of products with the ACTIVE Clean Air & Antibacterial Ceramic will also be taken into consideration. The proposals received will be included in a virtual exhibition published on the PIAM web site to ensure that architects and anyone else who is interested can follow the formal and typological debate. The contest will be regulated by the following rules, and it will be up to Matimex and, at the appropriate time, to the Jury to decide on any aspects which may not be explicitly addressed in the rules. Matimex s only obligation to the contest winners is to provide the prizes identified in these rules. Contest winners will not be asked to sign a contract with Matimex. The purpose of the contest is solely to encourage reflection on the issues addressed, and it will not result in construction of the projects. This contest is supported by the Fiandre Iris Ceramica Group. ORGANISER This contest is organised by Matimex, S.A. Any doubts as to the interpretation of these contest rules may be e-mailed to the address below at any time during the registration and project submission dates, as specified in the Dates section of this document.
