Cold Rolling. Coating. The world of Rasselstein. 5 Hot rolled steel strip in thicknesses of mostly 2-3 mm is the starting material for the production of tinplate. A cold rolling process reduces the thickness to between 0.125 and 0.499 mm, depending on customer requirements. Electrolytic coating with tin or chromium/chromium oxide protects the product from corrosion. 10 Conserving natural resources. Recycling the key to success. Benefits Tinplate is the most recycled packaging material in Europe; for years the recycling rate in Germany exceeds 80%. Due to its magnetic properties tinplate can be reprocessed at low cost, with high efficiency and environmental friendly at the same time. Tinplate products can be recycled time and time again, without its quality ever deteriorating to produce new high quality steel products. The engagement of Rasselstein for the environment is a driver for a sustainable development; the recycling rate of tinplate surpasses the rate prescribed in national and international recycling legislation.
