AKADEMOS TEXTBOOK ADOPTION TOOL What is the Adoption Tool? The Akademos Textbook Adoption Tool gives faculty an easy way to search, compare, and adopt textbooks for their course(s). The Adoption Tool is a free resource that contains over 2 million books in 3,600 subject areas. Our comparison site provides faculty with the tools they need to select course materials that best fit their courses and students. Why Should Faculty Use the Adoption Tool? The Akademos Textbook Adoption Tool allows faculty to: Discover which textbooks are being adopted for a particular course by instructors nationwide. Compare textbooks from traditional publishers and Open Educational Resources (OER) in a side-by-side matrix. Sort books by faculty rating, affordability, number of adoptions and more. Review books that you have used in the past and read reviews your peers have made about books you are considering. Adopt textbooks for your classroom. Search textbook affordability by school to see how your school ranks when it comes to the affordability of course materials.
How to use the Textbook Adoption Tool There are 4 easy steps in the adoption process. Step 1 To access the Akademos Textbook Adoption Tool go to: Adoption.Akademos.com. On the homepage you will be able to: Compare textbooks by searching subject, book, ISBN, or author. View textbook affordability ranking by school. Search popular courses. Read recent textbook reviews. View new video reviews. Create an account to save book searches.
Step 2 To compare book adoptions for a course you are teaching, simply enter the subject, book title, ISBN, or author name into the search box. Choose to view subject results or book results by using the tab at the top of the results box. Select the course or book that matches, or is most similar to, the course you are teaching. Step 3 After selecting a course, you will land on a comparison wheel page. This page will show you all the books that are being adopted nationwide for the course you selected. Both texts from traditional publishers and Open Educational Resources (OERs) will be displayed. Use the scroll arrows to see more results.
The following information will be shown for each book: Author Publish Date Edition List Price Instructor Rating (when applicable) is a star rating from instructors who have used and reviewed the book. Akademos AI is a proprietary algorithm that weighs median prices and purchase patterns on new, used and digital books, taking into account marketplace availability. Scores are calculated and books are scored from 1 to 5. The AI updates dynamically based on fluctuations in market prices. Adoption shows how many schools have adopted the book nationwide, and how many students are using the book. License displays commercial (traditional publisher) vs. Open Source publishers. Use the sort bar on the left hand side of the screen to sort by: Rating Affordability Adoption Publish Date License Saved items You can save particular books by clicking at the top of the comparison wheel. It is a good idea to save the books that you are interested in so that when you sort by saved you can see your favorite books listed next to each other. Be sure to create an account so that your saved items can be retrieved at a later time (note, this is a separate login from the Online Bookstore, so you will need to create an account the first time you visit the site). You can also sign up for alerts on saved materials through your account when you are logged in (for example, you can be notified when a new review of a saved item comes in). You can choose to share the comparison wheel with your colleagues by clicking the button.
Step 4 If you are interested in viewing more information about a particular book, simply click the button. On the book detail page you will see complete book information, including author, binding type, publisher, edition, publish date, ISBN and book description. You can also find full book reviews on this page. Unlike other sites, our reviews come from your peers (professors at other institutions) and go through an unbiased vetting process before they appear on our site. If you have used the book before, we highly encourage you to leave a review of your own. You can view to see real time listings of the book on the Textbookx Marketplace and to get a better sense of what your students would have to pay.
You can also click to see a list of schools that have adopted that book. Location and estimated student numbers (an estimate of how many students are using that book at the school) will be shown for each school. Click to get back to the comparison wheel. When you click the compare button, a list of all courses that book is currently associated with will appear choose the course that you are interested in. Remember, you must be logged in to view saved and adopted books. Please note, the Adoption Tool is a great informational source for faculty, but it is NOT currently linked to the CCC Online Bookstore. This means that if you adopt a book on the Adoption Tool, it will not automatically update CCC.TextbookX.com. We hope to have this capability in the near future. In the meantime, please contact Pam Mueller (pmueller@akademos.com) with any questions regarding booklist submission for the Online Bookstore. If you have any questions regarding the Adoption Tool, please email adoption@akademos.com. The Adoption Tool is a great way to compare textbooks for your classroom.
