Auckland Netball Academy The Auckland Netball Academy programme has been redesigned for the 2016 season. The Year 7-9 programme will now be known as the Pre-Academy Programme with a focus on general athleticism, improved skill base, game understanding and athlete life. The first intake of Pre-Academy players were selected last year from the Year 6-8 competition through a talent spotting process in August. These players were invited to a camp in September to determine final selection. There will be two additional intakes for the Pre-Academy in Term 1 & 2 of 2016 (dates TBC). The Academy Programme will focus on netball specific strength & conditioning, specialist coaching, game understanding and athlete life. The Academy will cater to the Under 15 age-group through to the Under 23 age-group and players selected will be placed in a tiered group from Level 1 to Level 3. Umpires will also be selected based on set criteria at each level, including appointments to representative tournaments. The players and umpires will be assessed by a panel of selectors and then will be invited to be part of the Level 1-3 Academy Programme. The first intake of players are those involved in the representative programme from the previous year. Other players and umpires may be invited at the discretion of the selection panel. Eligibility Players selected for the Pre-Academy & Academy Programme must play in a school or club team who participate in an Auckland Netball competition. Players must acknowledge Auckland Netball as their primary centre and intend to trial for an Auckland Netball representative team. Umpires must regularly umpire in the Auckland Netball competitions and at local/national representative tournaments. Cost The Auckland Netball Academy Programme is heavily subsidised by sponsors and funders. The 2016 Academy programme will take place 8 February to 26 August 2016 and will cost $200.00. The cost will be adjusted for those that join the programme in the periodic intakes. Any off-season programme costs will be additional and confirmed once the structure has been finalised.
