Press release Aarhus 7 May 2014 I am delighted to present the new season of the Danish National Opera - The Hard Choices of Love, says Artistic Director and General Manager Annilese Miskimmon. The 2014-15 season of the Danish National Opera presents La bohème and Così fan tutte, two of the most loved operas which will tour the country with Denmark s five regional orchestras. The autumn of 2014 will see the presentation of the romantically tragic world of Giacomo Puccini s La bohème perhaps the world s most admired opera and a perfect show for all ages and all types of audience. In the spring of 2015, the audience can then experience Mozart s Così fan tutte in a beautiful production of one of the finest operas about the hard choices of young love. The audience will get a unique experience with a new initiative from the Danish National Opera: Democratic Opera. The audience will be able to vote if they want to see a classical or modern production! Annilese Miskimmon will leave the choice to the audience For families with children from 8 and up, the Danish National Opera in co-production with Limfjordsteatret will stage the new show At the End of the Tunnel which is a magical experience about searching for a friend. We will also be touring with an opera concert adapted for the stage, Live & Love with the Chorus of the Danish National Opera. This is an opera concert with some of the finest arias and greatest scenes from famous operas staged by Annilese Miskimmon. The Chorus of the Danish National Opera can also be experienced in August together with Aalborg Symphony Orchestra at the concert Opera in Rebild and in Christmas Songs and Sounds of Brass with the Prince of Denmark s Brass Ensemble - both now traditional yearly highlights for audiences. The season of the Danish National Opera ends with a staging of Janácek s Jenufa at the Concert Hall Aarhus in August 2015, directed by Annilese Miskimmon. Following the success of Janácek s Katja Kabanova ( 13), the company is now presenting his masterpiece Jenufa, the story of an abused woman who forgives all out of love and creates meaning from her ruined life. Mozart s masterpiece Così fan tutte about two sisters who are tricked into switching boyfriends is one of the funniest and most profound operas about love ever written. The story is a tale of young love and betrayal, combining a rare combination of comedy and drama which only a genius like Mozart could create. The audience will get a unique experience with Annilese Miskimmon s new initiative in opera: Democratic Opera. On the night of the show, the audience will be able to vote if they want to see a classic or modern production, and the choice is democratically settled. Following the production of Janácek s Katja Kabanova ( 13), the Danish National Opera presents Janácek s third opera, Jenufa, a masterpiece based on the play Her stepdaughter by Gabriela Preissová. Leoš Janácek is the Czech Puccini, one of the greatest opera composers. Janácek s moving music is based on folk tunes from his home country and combines beauty with psychological power in some of the most intense, dramatic experiences in opera. Jaroslav Kyzlink conducted Katja Kabanova by Janácek at the Danish National Opera 13 and Die tote Stadt ( 10) that won a Reumert award. Much experience with Janácek, i.a. a degree from the Janácek Academy of Music in the Czech Repulic and conducted the operas Katja Kabanova, Jenufa and Šarka by Janácek. From 2012 musical director of the National Theatre in Prague. Future involvements are i.a. the new staging of Die tote Stadt in Tokyo ( 14).
