We can trace our origins back to 1797...When Charles Tennant, a farmer s son living near Glasgow and who was apprenticed as a Weaver, invented bleaching powder by passing chlorine gas over slaked lime. This revolutionised the linen trade by dramatically improving the bleaching process of cloth prior to dyeing and substantially reducing the cost. His business soon prospered!
