Prouct Guie Introuction Geberit Pluvia is the leaing siphonic roof rainage system use for over 30 years aroun the worl in over 80,000 installations to rain 80 million sq metres through 300,000 outlets. Architects, Consultants an Contractors have chosen the system for some of the most prestigious an groun breaking builing esigns ue to the freeom an flexibility it provies. Pluvia uses the ingenious gravity inuce vacuum principle to create a siphonic action, which allows the complete rainage of a roof area with smaller iameter pipes than use in a conventional gravity system. Geberit Siphonic roof systems are wiely use in the inustrial an coercial sector for all roofs. Geberit Pluvia Avantages: New architectural flexibility in builing an use No slope in pipework require Less unergroun pipe work Less sitework Fewer pipes an fittings Reuce pipe imensions Less space require Self cleaning action A simple an speey fastening system Conventional System Siphonic System Pipe Fall Fall 1-3 % No Fall Necessary Down Pipes Many Down Pipes Fewer Down Pipes Unergroun Pipes Long Unergroun Pipes Short Unergroun Pipes The Geberit Pluvia System is fully approve by the BBA. This inclues outlets, pipes & fittings, an the eicate esign software. All installations carry a minimum of a ten year prouct liability guarantee, an must be carrie out by a Geberit Pluvia approve installer. The prouct range inclues outlets to suit most roof esigns an finishes, with a comprehensive range of contact foils to suit the majority of roof membrane materials currently on the market. RIBA approve CPD seminars are available. Please contact Geberit for more information. 2 Pluvia Prouct an Installation Guie 2011

Installation Guie Siphonic System Elements Guie Installation Guie All Geberit Pluvia rainwater systems in the UK an Irelan are installe by fully traine Approve Installers, who will prepare the final esign for the project an will check at all the construction stages shoul there be any variations to the esign that the system will operate siphonically using the Geberit Pro- Planner software. The Pluvia roof rainage system consists of: Pluvia roof outlets Geberit HDPE rainage system PluviaFix fastening system ProPlanner esign software 1. Siphonic System Elements 1.1. Pluvia Roof Outlets 1.3. PluviaFix Fastening System The Geberit Pluvia fastening system was evelope for the installation of horizontal pipework. Avantages of the rail system: Quick installation Fewer ceiling fastening points Controls thermal movement No expansion because of rigi installation No expansion sockets in the horizontal pipes Simple prefabrication is possible One fastening for anchor an sliing brackets The expansion an contraction of the pipework is prevente by the rail system as the properties of HDPE allows rigi fixing. Pluvia Rail 362.863.26.1 Threae Ro M10 Tension Wege 362.865.26.1 Geberit Pluvia outlets are evelope for all types of roof structures. Due to the ifferent ischarge rates of the outlets (6 l/s, 12 l/s or 25 l/s) an economical layout of the roof rainage system can be reache. The wie range of contact sheets an accessories allows connection to most roof finishes. 1.2. Geberit HDPE Drainage System Pluvia Bracket Connector to Rail 362.864.26.1 Fig. 1: Geberit PluviaFix Rail System Rail Clamp 362.862.26.1 1.4. Geberit ProPlanner Design Software The highly avance software package easily allows the calculation of the most complex roof projects. The Geberit HDPE range of pipes an fittings complements the Pluvia outlet to provie a total rainage solution. Geberit HDPE is available in iameters 40-315, an can be jointe in a variety of ifferent methos incluing electrofusion, butt weling an mechanical coupling. The outstaning material characteristics of Geberit HDPE allow specifiers an contractors to esign an pre-fabricate pipe runs away from the site of the installation. Pipe runs can be create in a safe, clean environment ensuring secure an accurate fabrication as well as consierable material an labour savings Manufacture to BS EN 1519: All pipe iameter 40 to 315 are available to at least PN 4 specification an are suitable to -800 mbar negative pressure Pipe in 200 to 315 iameters are also available to PN 3.2 specification an are suitable to -450 mbar negative pressure Fig. 2: Geberit ProPlanner Pluvia Prouct an Installation Guie 2011 27
Installation Guie Methoology for Designing the Pluvia System It offers istinct avantages: Convenient an very easy to operate Consierable time savings BBA approve Meets the BS8490 Coe of practice for siphonic systems Provies - Isometric rawings - Hyraulic calculations - Material list incl. fixing components - Cost calculation with reay to mail tener ocuments 2. Methoology for Designing the Pluvia System 2.1. Step 1 Determine the roof(s) rainage patterns 2.2. Step 2 Calculate the areas of roof(s) raining to each outlet 2.3. Step 3 Determine the rainfall intensity rate 2.3.1. Metho A Geberit recoen using 108 /hr (0.03 l/s per sqm). In the UK an Irelan this figure provies a frequent return rate for a 2 minute storm which ensures the systems self cleansing routine is activate. 2.3.2. Metho B Use the metho an ata provie in BS EN 12056 part 3. We o however avise against using the very high rainfall intensity rates that can be generate if long life spans for the builing an high safety factors (categories) are use in the calculations. Example: Project locate in Lonon requiring 25 year life span protection, Category 3 Safety Factor. This will result in a rainfall intensity rate of 236 /hr. In reality this will mean that once every 112.5 years for 2 minutes there may be a storm with a rainfall intensity of 236 /hr. Using this high rainfall rate will result in the systems pipework being massively oversize, which will result in the system not operating siphonically frequently, requiring a high level maintenance prograe to check for silt buil up in the pipes. Geberit recoen using the rainfall rate mentione in Metho A an allowing any potential higher rate rainfall to temporarily accumulate on the roof (for valley gutters this may require some over sizing of the gutter to provie aitional storage capacity). Example: If the 236 /hr protection is require, esign a primary system to cope with 108 /hr. Given: Require rainfall intensity rate: 236 /hr Recoen rainfall intensity rate: 108 /hr Require: Buil up from the excess over 2 minutes (1/30 hr) [] Solution: 236 -------- 108 -------- = 128 -------- hr hr hr 128 -------- 30 hr = 4.3 hr Buil up = 4.3 If the above mentione temporary storage metho is not acceptable then one of the three options below may be use: Option 1: Weir overflows in the parapet walls Option 2: A seconary siphonic overflow system Option 3: A separate internal overflow system (gravity) In all roof esigns an emergency / warning overflow must be provie to inicate a blockage within the system. 28 Pluvia Prouct an Installation Guie 2011

Overflow Provision All roofs shoul have some provision of emergency overflow to protect the builing from unplanne buil-up of water on the roof or in the gutter. This can take form of: Weir overflows in the parapet wall or gutter ens Stan pipes through the roof or gutter ischarging via pipes to the groun Seconary gravity or siphonic system which incorporates an internal aaptor in the outlet which prevents water from entering the system until it reaches a epth of at least 55. This system can also ischarge at groun level (not connecte to the rainage system) ue to its infrequency of use plus to give an inication that the roof is flooing for some reason Geberit overflow aaptors can be installe in the Series 7 an Series 7+ type outlets. Series 5 outlets will nee to be raise on a plinth to restrict water flow until the esire height has been reache.
