fire consultancy

Chiltern International Fire and Chiltern Dynamics, as part of the BM TRADA Group, have more than 70 years experience in providing practical solutions in the field of testing and consultancy for the construction industry. We are renowned for our understanding of fire behaviour in the built environment. Chiltern International Fire s consultancy team provides a wide range of services to UK-based and international clients. Our in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and product performance means we can offer extensive expert advice, allowing our clients to make informed decisions in the field of passive fire protection. the importance of fire consultancy In the built environment, there is often a legal requirement for products such as doors, screens, partitions, floors and ceilings, to resist the passage and spread of fire, in order to protect life. Fire resistance is a key requirement for building regulations. The location and period of fire resistance required for construction products and/or systems is determined by legislation, codes of practice or the accepting authority. Over time, the information relating to the status of fire protection in a building is not always fully maintained. Changes in building use or regulatory reform can result in a need to establish the current levels of protection. An on-site survey can easily re-establish the status of the fire protection and advise on any further upgrading work necessary. For certain projects that require bespoke solutions, a design appraisal by a Fire Consultant may be the only appropriate approach to establish likely performance. The process of proving product/system performance through testing and assessments can be both complex and expensive. Fire consultancy can ensure that the client takes the most cost-effective and advantageous route through this process.

Chiltern International Fire s consultancy services Whilst diverse in nature and scope, all of our consultancy services have one goal. They are designed to help our clients achieve their objectives in the most efficient and economic way possible. We do this by following a clear and logical process, as detailed below: explore and develop First and foremost, we encourage our clients to talk to us and clarify their objectives. We find many organisations turn to us precisely because they appreciate having the opportunity to discuss their needs with experts prior to their investment in technical appraisals or test/assessment programmes. Through exploring and reviewing our clients plans and sharing our knowledge of legislative and market requirements, we can develop the best approach to support them. By listening to and involving our clients at every stage, we help our clients in a way that we feel is unique to Chiltern International Fire. product assessment reports Product assessment reports generally take one of two main forms. They may be used to extend the range of application of existing fire test evidence, thus maximising permissible design variations and enhancing the overall value of the evidence. Alternatively, they may be a design appraisal of an unusual or bespoke construction conducted on a project specific basis. site survey work The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order requires all buildings other than dwelling houses to be regularly checked to ensure that their fire safety provisions are adequate. Our service in this field involves conducting on-site surveys of critical passive fire protection measures including fire doors, panelling, compartment lines or service penetrations, in essence anything that could serve to control the development and spread of fire. Where necessary, we provide advice on replacing and/or upgrading the existing components to satisfy fire performance requirements.

specialist risk assessment Buildings of special interest often have unique requirements with respect to fire safety management and as such need to be considered on an individual basis in terms of assessing and mitigating fire risk. We are able to develop fire risk assessments that are suited to a particular building and its contents with the advantage of being able to support bespoke fire risk management solutions with tailor made test programmes. Our breadth of knowledge and understanding of the built environment extends wider than the field of fire safety. We are able to access a wealth of information on buildings of special interest and liaise with other specialist building/material consultants should it be necessary. historic renovation Where our work involves listed or historic buildings, we can advise on upgrading within heritage and conservation guidelines. Our expertise in this area has been successfully used in some of the most notable buildings in the UK, including castles, manor houses, listed hotels, and historic transport centres/networks. This has led to design solutions satisfying the client, enforcing authorities and heritage agencies, alike. training We consider the transfer of knowledge an important part of what we do. This is why we offer in-house training seminars and demonstrations on passive fire protection. We can devise courses on almost any passive fire protection issue including fire dynamics, suppression systems, regulations and guidance. One of our most popular training programmes is Timber Fire Doors Explained. This is a seminar and fire test demonstration day designed to present an overview of fire door design, manufacture, testing, installation and third-party certification. Our seminars are usually held at our Hughenden Valley site, however, a modified version can be produced which we can bring to you at a venue of your choice. fire consultancy
