EPA regulations in 2007 and 2010 dramatically reduced the allowable diesel engine emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). EPA Tightens Regulations Allowable levels of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) have been reduced from 5.0 g/bhp * hr in 1994, to 0.2 g/bhp * hr in 2010. 5.0 The allowable particulate matter levels have been reduced from 0.10 g/bhp * hr in 1994, to 0.01 g/bhp * hr in 2007.
