3 Project Migration 3 Project Migration This chapter describes the topic of project migration, always referring to the migration from WinCC flexible or STEP 7 to TIA Portal. 3.1 Preliminary measures 3.1.1 Helpful information First, read chapter 2 Preliminary Measures and check the points listed there. Before migrating an existing configuration into the TIA Portal, create a backup copy of the configuration. 3.1.2 Changing from 4:3 to widescreen One of the Comfort Panel features is the change from 4:3 display format to widescreen format. This will increase the visualization surface by up to 50%. Figure 3-1 In the course of the project migration you will switch the existing operator panel, e.g. a MP 277 Touch, to a Comfort Panel. Prior to switching the operator panel you will determine how the previous image contents will be migrated into the new format. The TIA Portal provides a function for specifying the settings. In the manual Migration Guide Comfort Panels, in chapter "Switching the screen from 4:3 to widescreen, you will find information on where to make these settings and which effects the settings will have. You can either download the manual under Entry ID 49752044 or use this direct link to chapter 3.3. 3.2 WinCC Flexible Project Migration Entry ID 54695062 shows a FAQ contribution regarding this topic, providing information about how to migrate only the WinCC flexible project to WinCC (TIA Portal). The individual steps for migrating a multipanel to WinCC (TIA Portal) are described. Finally you will learn how to change the MP 277 Touch into a Comfort Panel. V1.0, Entry ID: 76878921 25

3 Project Migration 3.3 STEP 7 incl. WinCC Flexible Project Migration The procedure is the same as the one described in chapter 3.2 WinCC Flexible Project Migration. 3.4 Messages after migration Migration log A migration log is created for every migration. The log contains the following information: Migrated objects. Changes to objects made during migration. Errors occurred during migration. If required, through a link providing you with more information. Some messages may have a question mark displayed next to them. Clicking on the question mark will give you more information concerning the message. You can access the log in the project tree under Common data > Logs. Figure 3-2 Migration was canceled If the migration failed, an XML file will be created as a log in the project directory under the "\Logs folder. You can open the file with any XML editor (e.g. Notepad) to find out about the cause of the failed migration. 26 V1.0, Entry ID: 76878921

3 Project Migration 3.4.1 Unspecified CPU If the existing CPU was replaced by an unspecified CPU, the reason might be that you did not activate the option Include hardware configuration or that the hardware configuration is not supported by TIA Portal. Figure 3-3 The first step after the migration without hardware configuration is to change the unspecified CPU into a specified CPU. Unspecified CPUs are wildcards for certain CPUs from the hardware catalog, which are currently not yet determined. The project will only be fully functional after the unspecified CPU has been specified. 3.4.2 Operator panel is empty and will not be migrated If this message is displayed, the reason may be that you have not activated the Include hardware configuration option. Figure 3-4 Usually you only have to adapt the connection to the CPU in the system configuration. V1.0, Entry ID: 76878921 27

3 Project Migration 3.4.3 Required GSD file missing This message will be displayed if the GSD file, that you used in SIMATIC STEP 7 to configure the slaves, is not installed in TIA Portal. Remedy Even though the migration was not executed, a project folder was created for the new project. This project folder contains the directory \AdditionalFiles\GSD. All GSD files required for migration in the TIA Portal are included in this directory. Please install these GSD files into the TIA Portal. Brief description 1. In the TIA Portal, select the Options > Install device description file (GSD) menu. 2. In the Install device description file dialog, select the directory containing the GSD files. This is the subfolder \AdditionalFiles\GSD in the project folder of the migrated project. 3. Select the GSD files from the list. 4. Click the Install button. After installing the missing GSD files, repeat the project migration. Notes You will find GSD (GSE) files also among the following points, for example. Current GSD files can be downloaded from the Siemens Industry Online Support pages. GSD (GSE) files stored on the PC are listed in the STEP 7 installation directory. Example: C:\Program Files\Siemens\Step7\S7DATA\GSD You will find the associated Bitmap in the NSBMP folder. Example: C:\Program Files\Siemens\ Step7\S7DATA\NSBMP 3.4.4 No suitable version of STEP 7 installed If you received this message, you do not have STEP 7 or not the right version of STEP 7 installed on your PC. If you do not wish to install STEP 7 on your PC, you can use the migration tool as a remedy. Please refer to the information in chapter 2.6 Software required for migration. 28 V1.0, Entry ID: 76878921

4 Post-Processing 4 Post-Processing 4.1 Adapt controller If the existing controller was replaced by an unspecified CPU, open the device configuration of the PLC controller. Select a CPU from the hardware catalog. Replace the unspecified CPU by the CPU from the hardware catalog. Make the required settings such as connect interface, etc. 4.2 Adapt HMI operator panel Check the device configuration after migration and adapt if necessary. 4.3 Adapt screens If you changed operator panels, you will have made settings in the Options > Visualization > Adaptations screens and objects menu before the change. In the individual screens, check whether the adaptions made are as you expect them to be. 4.4 Combined configuration with WinCC V12 and STEP 7 V5.x In some cases it is necessary, due to technical or customer-specific reasons, to continue creating the PLC program with the STEP 7 V5.x software and the HMI configuration with the WinCC (TIA Portal) software. Entry ID 73502293 provides solutions for the combined use of WinCC (TIA Portal) and STEP 7 V5.x. V1.0, Entry ID: 76878921 29

5 Glossary 5 Glossary TIA Portal The TIA Portal (Totally Integrated Automation Portal) is the engineering user interface that the WinCC V12 Advanced or STEP 7 Professional V12 engineering tools are operated in. If TIA Portal is mentioned in the Migration Guide, the engineering tools WinCC V12 and STEP 7 V12 are included. WinCC (TIA Portal) The name WinCC (TIA Portal) is used if the described HMI application is independent of any version. This means, the described HMI application is valid for all versions such as WinCC V11, WinCC V12, etc.. The WinCC engineering software is available in several editions, depending on price and performance. They are based on each other and are optimally tailored to the individual operator panel categories, the larger software package always comprising the configuration options of the smaller package.
