Important Instructions and Information regarding Subject Combinations: 1. These combinations are liable to change as per the latest Panjab University instructions. The latest instructions will be displayed on the college notice board. 2. There are limited seats in each combination and these shall be offered on the basis of merit/first come first served basis, according to the Admission Schedule of this college. 3. Change of combination is subject to the availability of seats in the combination to be taken up only within one month of admission to B.A I. Therefore, students are advised to select the subject combination very carefully after thorough consideration and consultation. Students may seek the help of Subject Combinations Guidance Committee specially set up for B.A I Class. 4. With the permission of the principal, seats in Music (I), Music (V ) and Sanskrit can be adjusted for the students having previous training in these subjects. 5. Only those students who have passed 10+2 examination with minimum of 40% marks in Mathematics can opt for Mathematics. 6. Students are advised to leave the subject combination column blank in the Admission Form. This column should be filled up only in the presence of the Admission Committee. Eligibility for taking up the subject of Physical Education 1. Physical Education can be taken up by those students who have either studied the subject in the previous class or have participated in Inter School/State/Open State tournaments. Certificates in this regard should be produced at the time of interview. 2. As per the new guidelines of the Panjab University, the admission of students in Physical Education shall be finalised after conducting a Physical Fitness Test/ Cooper s 12 minutes run/walk test. The subject will be offered to physically fit students. 3. The admission to sports quota (i.e. 2%) will be done on the basis of gradation issued by the appropriate authority. 4. The practical class is compulsory as per the Dept. /College time table. Instructions for taking up the subject of Functional English in B.A. I : 1. Functional English is a job-oriented vocational course at the undergraduate level. It acts as a foundation course for careers in Mass Communication, i.e. in Radio, T.V. and Print media, as well as in call centres and other areas where fluency in English is the pre-requisite. 2. (Semester System) Eligibility (a) (b) (c) (d) A bachelor s degree in Commerce with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate; OR B.Com (Hons) degree with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate; OR A bachelor s degree with Honours in Economics OR Mathematics OR Statistics OR Commerce with not less than 45% in the aggregate; OR A bachelor s degree with 50% marks in the aggregate having offered either Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or Commerce as a subject in the examination. In case of a candidate having Bachelor s degree of the University through Modern Indian Language [Hindi/Urdu/Punjabi/Gurmukhi Script] and/ or in a Classical Language (Sanskrit/ Persian/Arabic) or degree of any other University obtained in the same manner recognized by the Syndicate; 50% marks in the aggregate shall be calculated by taking into account full percentage of marks in all the papers in Language excluding the additional optional paper, English and the elective subject taken together; OR (e) (f) An associate of the (i) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England or (ii) Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or England; OR A pass in the final examination conducted (g) by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India; OR Any other qualification recognized by the Syndicate for this purpose: A candidate who seeks admission on the basis of qualifications mentioned in (c), (d), (e) above shall be required to qualify a special examination in two papers on (i) Commercial and Taxation Laws, and (ii) Accounting and Auditing, within one year from the date of Admission (either with Semester I examination or with Semester II examination), in accordance with the Syllabus as may be prescribed by the Senate. The tutor will maintain a record of the student s conduct, health, attendance and progress in studies as well as his participation in co-curricular activities. Subject Societies Subject societies of the various departments of the college organise lectures, seminars, declamation contests and education trips etc. throughout the year to update the knowledge of the students and provide them a forum to develop their all round personality.
