What is ILIAS?... stands for Integrated Learning, Information and CooperAtion System... integrates several tools for learning, information, working and authoring in one environment... supports learning and teaching processes in education, vocational and further training... can be adjusted to personal and organisational needs... is available as open source software and thus offers a reasonable and flexible solution for elearning projects

History of ILIAS Originally developed for VIRTUS project at University of Cologne in 1997/98 Aims of VIRTUS: Time independent distance learning Expansion of traditional functions in higher education by a webbased learning and working environment Improved communication between students and teachers Open Source Software since 2000 International user and developer network Multi-language support Regional competence centers for ILIAS users
