, CHENNAI MINUTES OF THE STAGE REVIEW MEETING Stage Review Meeting of the F.S. 2010-12 for G.S.I., SU: TNP was held at Rajaji Bhavan, on 24 th and 25 th January 2011, to review the work carried out in the quarter October to December 2010. On the first day, Projects under Mission- I and Mission-III whereas on the second day projects under Mission- II were reviewed. Shri. I. K. Khan, Director, (TC) gave an introduction about the SU: TNP and the projects to be reviewed in the meeting. Dr. K. Ayyasami, DDG and HOD, briefed about the new mission mode of operation in GSI and other activities. 1

MISSION-I STM (VARSHNAD) STUDY OF TECTONOMAGMATIC EVOLUTION OF VARSHNAD HILL SECTOR, SOUTHERN GRANULITE TERRAIN, TAMIL NADU. STM/SR/TNP/2010/001 SHRI N. SINGARAM P. RAJESH DURAI AND H. NAIK Shri P. Rajesh Durai, Geologist, presented the work. 1 Sweeping statement on interbanding of charnockite / khondalite may be stated only after detailed field studies. 2 There should be a clear distinction between `Background information and highlights. 3 Prograde metamorphism to be established. 4 Deformation / Magmatic episodes to be brought out. 5 Stratigraphic index and symbols are to be incorporated in the map. 6 Granites of different generations should be distinctly mapped and represented in the map. 7 Petrographic studies are to be incorporated. 8 Prorata target achieved and item should be completed as per schedule STM (KKD) STUDY OF TECTONIC FRAME WORK AND MINERAL POTENTIAL OF KANGEYAM CHINNA DHARAPURAM, SECTOR OF KINATTUKKADAVU-KANKEYAM-CHINNA DHARAPURAM TECTONIC ZONE OF CENTRAL TAMIL NADU. STM/SR/TNP/2010/002 SHRI N. SINGARAM G. SENTHIL KUMARAN AND NAVEEN KUMAR NIGAM Shri G. Senthil Kumaran, Geologist, presented the work. The committee made the following comments. 1 Pegmatites of different generations as identified are to be sampled. 2 Types of pegmatite to be distinguished by genesis/petro-chemistry and not by size. 3 Stratigraphic index and symbols are to be incorporated in the map. 4 Structural data is insufficient. 5 Peridotite and dunite should be sampled and analysed for important elements. 6 Tectonic history should be brought out. 7 Although there is a mention of two sets of gneissosity/schistosity but only one set of foliation is shown in the map. It needs further check. 2

GCM NATIONAL GEOCHEMICAL MAPPING IN CHINNA SALEM KALLAKURICHCHI AREA IN PARTS OF VILLUPURAM, PERAMBALUR AND SALEM DISTRICTS OF TAMIL NADU (TOPO SHEET 58I/13,14 AND I/9 (PART). GCM/SR/TNP/2010/006 SHRI U. DURAIRAJ S.N. MARIAPPAN AND D.K. YADAV Shri S.N. Mariappan, Geologist, presented the work. 1 Prorata target not achieved. 2 Land use map and geomorphological map should be prepared. 3 Although some mapping target has been shown but no samples were generated. 4 Work carried out under this specific item only need to be projected rather giving more elaboration to the previous work. 5 Item should be completed as per schedule. GCM GEOCHEMICAL MAPPING IN PARTS OF SALEM, DHARMAPURI, VILLUPURAM AND TIRUVANNAMALAI DISTRICTS, TAMIL NADU (TOPOSHEET NOS. 58I/5 AND 9 (PART). GCM/SR/TNP/2010/008 SHRI U. DURAIRAJ A. AGNIHOTRI AND C.S. VIJAYALAKSHMI Ms. C.S. Vijayalakshmi, Geologist, presented the work. 1 Prorata target achieved. 2 Land use map and geomorphological map should be prepared. 3 Samples may be submitted regularly for chemical analysis. 4 Previous analytical results of adjoining areas to be shown. 5 Item should be completed as per schedule. 3

MISSION II PGE (TASAMPALAIYAM) INVESTIGATION FOR PLATINUM GROUP OF ELEMENTS BY SCOUT DRILLING IN TASAMPALAIYAM BLOCK IN SITTAMPUNDI LAYERED MAFIC- ULTRAMAFIC COMPLEX OF TAMIL NADU. ME/SR/TNP/2009/015 DR. N.P. NATHAN S. DHANENDRAN AND LAYA M. PILLAI Shri S. Dhanendran, Geologist, presented the work. 1 Geophysical component should be incorporated. This is to be taken up on top priority. 2 Comparative studies of trench and B.H. analytical data required. 3 Item to be completed as per schedule. PGE (KARAPPADI) INVESTIGATION FOR PLATINUM GROUP OF ELEMENTS BY SCOUT DRILLING IN SOLAVANUR AND KARAPPADI BLOCKS AND DETAILED MAPPING IN MALLANAYAKANPALAYAM BLOCK, METTUPPALAIYAM MAFIC-ULTRAMAFIC COMPLEX, TAMIL NADU. ME/SR/TNP/2009/017 SHRI I. K. KHAN J. PRABHAKAR AND S. SAMGNA Shri J. Prabhakar, Sr. Geologist, presented the work. 1 Geophysical component should be incorporated. This is to be taken up on top priority. 2 Table showing the analytical results should carry the thickness and the R.L. of the lodes. 3 Geological map and boundaries need some changes as the area is predominantly soil covered and accordingly, title to be modified. PGE (MUB) PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION FOR PLATINUM GROUP OF ELEMENTS IN METTUPALAIYAM ULTRAMAFIC BELT, TAMIL NADU. ME/SR/TNP/2010/031 M. RAVIKUMAR R.S.K. RAVI, D. BOOPATHI, T. ESAKKIMUTHU AND A. BALUKKARASU Shri T. Esakkimuthu, Geologist presented the work. 4

This is to be taken up on top priority. 2 To improve on the quality of the geological map by incorporating more structural data. 3 Geochemical sampling to be taken up. 4 Item to be completed as per schedule. MO (HARUR) DETAILED EXPLORATION FOR MOLYBDENUM IN VELLAKKAL CENTRAL BLOCK, HARUR-UTTANGARAI MOLYBDENUM BELT, DHARMAPURI DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU. ME/SR/TNP/2010/032 E. Balasubramanian K. Raju, Sr. Geologist Shri K. Raju, Sr. Geologist presented the work. 1 New boreholes may be drilled along the shear zone. 2 Prorata target for drilling achieved. 3 Item to be completed as per schedule. MISSION IIB LIGNITE REGIONAL EXPLORATION FOR LIGNITE IN BOGALUR EAST SECTOR, RAMNAD SUB-BASIN, RAMANATHAPURAM DISTRICT, TAMIL NADU. MIE/CCW/CW/2008/010 S. BALAKRISHNAN T.S. GIRIDHARAN AND S.B. VIJAY KUMAR Dr. T.S. Giridharan, Geologist presented the work. 1 Prorata target in Drilling achieved. 2 The investigation needs proper planning to achieve the objective. 3 R.L. of the boreholes should be immediately given by arranging a surveyor. 4 In stratigraphy table make the necessary corrections under Hiatus column. 5 Lignite seams / sections and iso-pack map to be generated. 5

MISSION III GEODATA VALIDATION, STANDARDISATION AND VERSIONING OF UPLOADED DIGITAL SPATIAL DATASETS TO CREATE SEAMLESS 50K MAPS OF ENTIRE SOUTHERN REGION. MAP/SR/HQ/2008/018 E. RAMALINGAM DR. V. CHANDRASEKARAN Dr. V. Chandrasekaran, Sr. Geologist presented the work. 1 Field photographs to be uploaded @ 15 photos/geologist/month. 2 Completion of all layers / editing / versioning needed before final uploading. 3 Achievement / highlights to be segregated from routine work / engagements GEODATA CREATION OF THEME BASED RELATIONAL LINEAR AND POINT DATABASE. SR/TNP/2010/049 E. RAMALINGAM E.S.N. RAO AND V. K. RAHOTHAMAN Project Director gave an introduction about the projects work. Shri E.S.N. Rao Sr. Geologist presented the work. 1 Compiled data to be projected for proper evaluation. Points, which were discussed beyond F.S.P., are as follows: 1. Collaborative work with University and GSI. 2. A museum for preservation of fossils from the Cretaceous Limestone in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu to be established in collaboration with Govt. of Tamil Nadu. 6
