Recommended System Requirements IBM or 100% compatible system with an Intel Pentium 4, 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM memory or better Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP Sufficient hard disk space to install and run the products (at least 1GB) 1 free USB slot EMGworks 3.1 or higher These release notes are provided to assist you with installing your new hardware and software onto your PC so that you can begin using the Myomonitor as quickly as possible. The procedures and images outlined in this document are representative of those that will be encountered on most computers. However, in some cases variations in these may exist. If you encounter difficulty in following these directions, do not hesitate to contact our Technical Support Department. The successful operation of the Myomonitor Wireless EMG System requires you to complete each of the following Stages. This document addresses Stages 1, 2 and 3. Please see the Release Notes-Setting up the Myomonitor III and Getting Started for Stages 4 and 5. Stage 1: Installing the Wireless USB Adapter on the PC. Stage 2: Setting up the Peer-to-Peer Network on the PC. Stage 3: Identifying the Host in the Peer-to-Peer Network on the PC. Stage 4: Setting up the Peer-to-Peer Network on the Myomonitor. Stage 5: Getting started with the Myomonitor and EMGworks. 1
Stage 1: Installing the D-Link WUA-1340 Wireless USB Adapter The Myomonitor and host communicate wirelessly via a peer-to-peer network. In a peer-to-peer network, computers communicate directly with each other and do not need a server to manage shared resources. Important! Install the D-Link Software before connecting the adapter to the computer. 1. Insert the D-Link WUA-1340 Driver CD in the CD-ROM drive. The installation program should start automatically. If this does not occur, then you will need to manually run the setup.exe file from the Drivers folder on the CD. 2. Click Install Drivers to start the installation wizard. 3. 4. Click Next to Continue. 5. Click Next to accept the default installation location. To install this software in a different location, click Browse, choose a new location, and then click Next. 6. Select the Program Files folder location. Click Next to start the installation of the drivers. Windows XP users will see the following screen for using the Windows Zero Configuration Utility option. 7. Insert the Adapter into a USB port on the computer. Use the cradle between the adapter and the computer to allow for appropriate positioning. If the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, click Cancel to terminate it. Click Next on the D- Link Installation window to continue. 8. The D-Link software will now ask you to enter the wireless network name. Since this information will be established in the subsequent steps, click Exit and then Finish to end the wireless connection wizard. 4 Release Notes - Installing the Wireless Receiver on a PC.
Stage 2: Setting up the peer-to-peer network 1. Double click the D-Link icon in the system notification area of the PC task bar to start the D-Link Wireless Connection Manager. 2. Click on the My Wireless Networks button. 3. Click the New button. 4. The Profile Settings must be correctly entered in the window below. Release Notes - Installing the Wireless Receiver on a PC. 5
5. In the Profile Name field, type Myomonitor. In the SSID: field, type Myomonitor Set the Network Type to be Ad hoc. Set the Set Security Option to be WEP. Let the Wired Equivalent Privacy(WEP) default to Open In the Key field, type 13244. Set the Key Length to be 64 bits(40+24) - 5 Ascii digits. Let the Key Index default to 1. Click OK to continue. 6. Stage 3: Identifying the host in the Peer-to-Peer Network The host needs to be uniquely identified in the Peer-to-Peer network in order for the Myomonitor to be able to connect to it successfully. A unique IP-address must be assigned to the wireless adapter hardware from the Windows' Control Panel. 1. Open the Windows Control Panel from the Start Menu. 2. Double-click on the "Network Connections" dialog. 3. If you have difficulty initiating the Networks Connections Window, you can start it by typing ncpa.cpl in the Start Menu s ->Run command window.. 4. Select the connection corresponding to the D-Link device and click "Change settings of this connection" found in the Network Tasks list to the left. Alternate method: select connection, right click on the connection and select "Properties" from the popup menu. 5. In the list labelled "This connection uses the following items", check the following items (if available): QoS Packet Scheduler Internet protocol (TCP/IP) Make sure all other items are unchecked. 6. Select the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" item and click "Properties". 7. In the IP Address field, enter 172.16.0.1. 8. Enter Subnet mask 255.255.255.0. 9. Click "OK" return to the previous menu and "Close" to accept the changes. 10. The network is now setup and ready to use. 11. Install EMGworks on the PC at this time if you have not done so already.
