13. Which is the frequency of paying common costs? How much are the common cost in Budapest? Something as easy as paying the common cost, in Hungary could be a nightmare and normally gives a lot of headaches to the tenants as they have to measure monthly the meters of the water, electricity and central heating. Next step they have to take would be calling each company to issue an invoice of the expenses. And the process doesn t end there, as the tenants have to wait long hours in a line in order to make the payments, and on top of it, we shouldn t forget about the language problems as the employees of these companies only speak Hungarian. For this reason, to avoid all the trouble that this situation could generate and at the demand of our clients, KATEGORA offers the possibility of making the payment by bank transfer, presenting Qdea service. QDea, the information technology programme similar to electronic banking, offers to the customer the possibility of seeing all the expenses of the apartment and online control of all the costs. Qdea permits the tenant to save time, money and forget about the headaches, offering all the comfort and accuracy. The prices of the common costs in Budapest are around 0, 80 /m2 monthly. 14. Knowing that in Hungary winter could be quite cold, what could be the central heating costs? We advise our clients to control the central heating costs in the coldest months of the winter, setting the radiator on the lower heat mode when the person is not in the apartment. That helps save money, as we know that without any control, the invoices could get to 80 /month. 15. When is the tenant supposed to make the monthly rent payment and how? The tenant is required to make the rent payment by bank transfer, until the 5th day of each month. 16. Does the tenant have to make a rental deposit? As a student, what formalities and arrangements do I have to make when arriving in Budapest? There are different visa formalities that the foreign students (citizens of European Union) have to make when they get to Budapest. Is it necessary to open a bank account in Budapest? Yes, it is very useful to open a bank account in Budapest in order to reduce the bank transfer charges. By using this method, the family could make money transfers to the students avoiding additional bank charges and saving money. There are fewer charges having a Hungarian bank account, than using the visa debit or credit card from the country of origin. 20. What is it better: to use a Hungarian mobile phone or the personal mobile phone from my country? In order to use your own mobile phone, the first thing to do is to activate the ROAMING service before leaving your country. Nevertheless, it is an expensive service and for that reason we advise you to buy a Hungarian mobile phone, which would be more practical and would save a lot of money on local calls. To speak with the parents and friends from your home country, we recommend to use SKYPE, the free internet based call service. Need an apartment for rent? Have more questions? Call us.
