GAME PLAY RL-10 Perhaps no game of chance RL-20 symbolizes elegant casino gambling as much as roulette! The action of the game focuses RL-30 on a specially designed wheel spinning round and round, while excited bettors anxiously hope that the ball which circles in the opposite direction along the wheel's outer track will eventually drop into the numbered slot they have bet on. The perfectly balanced roulette RL-40 wheel has thirty-eight slots, numbered one through thirtysix, zero, and double-zero. Eighteen numbers are colored black; eighteen are red; and the zero numbers are green. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 3 9/20/90 1:11 PM
Before each spin, you (and the RL-50 players in your party) make your bets on a number, a group of numbers, or the color you hope will win. When you're all done betting, spin the wheel. When the wheel stops spinning, RL-60 the ball will come to rest in one of the numbered slots, indicating the winner. After the casino collects the losing bets and pays the winners, you can make new bets for the next spin. MOVING AROUND THE RL-70 LAYOUT In our casino, you can see only RL-80 part of the betting layout at any one time. To see other parts of the layout, move the pointer to the top or bottom of the screen until the section you want comes into view. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 4 9/20/90 1:11 PM
PLACING BETS RL-90 As you move the pointer over RL-100 the betting layout, you'll notice that white boxes appear. Each white box outlines a "betting box," where you may place a bet. Before you place a bet, select the RL-110 value of your chip by clicking on the chip symbol until the amount you want to bet appears. Once you start betting, you can not change the chip value until the next spin. TYPES OF BETS RL-120 All bets at the roulette wheel fallrl-130 into one of two categories: "inside" bets, or "outside" bets. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 5 9/20/90 1:11 PM
Illustration of the betting layout isolates and highlights the "inside" bettting area. Inside bets refers to all bets made on the numbers inside the layout. You can make inside bets on a single number -- by placing a chip right in the center of the betting box for that number, or you can bet on a group of numbers, by placing chips at the borders and at the corners where several numbers meet. RL-140 Illustration of the betting layout isolates and highlights the "outside" bettting area. Outside bets refer to all bets made outside the numbered layout --including bets on red or black, odd or even, the columns, the dozens, and the first or last eighteen. RL-150 Taken altogether, there are RL-160 eleven kinds of bets you can make. Now we'll show you how to make them. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 6 9/20/90 1:11 PM
DEMONSTRATION GAME RL-170 Let's play some roulette for two RL-180 players, Cloverleaf and Lucky Star. Lucky Star clicks on her chip to RL-190 set its value at twenty-five dollars. She wants to make a straight-up RL-200 bet on five, so she moves the pointer to five until the white betting box in the center of the number appears. Then she clicks to deposit one RL-210 chip in the box. A straight-up bet is a bet on a RL-220 single number. It pays 36 for 1. For every dollar you bet, you get thirty-six dollars back. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 7 9/20/90 1:11 PM
In roulette, you can make as RL-230 many wagers you want on as many different numbers as you like, so Lucky Star continues to place more bets. She clicks on the border between RL-240 eight and nine to place a bet on both numbers with one chip. Betting two numbers with one RL-250 chip is called a split bet, and you can make a split bet by placing a chip on the border between any two adjacent numbers on the layout. If either number shows, you win. A split bet pays 18 for 1. Lucky Star now moves the RL-260 pointer to the four and clicks on the line that separates the inside and outside betting area. This gives her a bet on the three numbers in that row -- the four, five, and six -- and it's called a three-number, or street, bet. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 8 9/20/90 1:11 PM
If any of those three numbers RL-270 turn up, she wins. A threenumber, or street bet, pays 12 for 1. Lucky Star is done betting, so we RL-280 click on the player symbol to bring up the next player, Cloverleaf. Cloverleaf clicks once on his chip RL-290 to increase its value to five dollars. With his chip value set, he movesrl-300 the pointer down the layout to the corner where four numbers meet -- fourteen, fifteen, twenty, and twenty-one -- and he clicks to place a bet. In roulette, each player uses a different colored chip to distinguish their bets, so Cloverleaf's chip is displayed in a different color.from Lucky Star's. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 9 9/20/90 1:11 PM
This four-number bet is called a RL-310 corner bet. If any of these four numbers show up, Cloverleaf wins. A corner bet pays 9 for 1. To make a five-number bet, RL-320 Cloverleaf moves the pointer to the top of the layout and clicks at the junction of the zero and the one. This is the only five number bet you can make, and it covers the zero, double zero, one, two, and three. A win on any of those numbers RL-330 pays 7 for 1. Cloverleaf now moves the RL-340 pointer down the border to the junction between two "streets" of numbers, and he clicks to deposit a chip. This is a six-number (or "line") bet, and it covers both rows of three numbers with one chip. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 10 9/20/90 1:11 PM
If any of the six numbers in RL-350 these two adjacent rows turns up, Cloverleaf wins. A sixnumber bet pays 6 for 1. O.K. Enough bets. Between them, RL-360 Cloverleaf and Lucky Star have made the six kinds of inside bets that can be made in roulette. Let's click on SPIN to make the RL-370 wheel turn. Five. Red. RL-380 The casino collects the losing betsrl-390 and pays the winners. All chips are cleared from the layout awaiting new bets. Lucky Star increases her chip RL-400 value to one hundred dollars. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 11 9/20/90 1:11 PM
She moves down to the bottom ofrl-410 the layout and places a twelvenumber bet by clicking outside the numerical layout, in the column at the far right. This "column" bet allows her to RL-420 cover all twelve numbers in the vertical column above the chip, and it pays 3 for 1. Next, Lucky Star places a bet in RL-430 the box outside the group of numbers from twenty-five to thirty-six. This is another way to cover RL-440 twelve numbers with one bet, and it's called a "dozen" bet. Like the column bet which also RL-450 covers twelve numbers, the dozen bet pays 3 for 1. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 12 9/20/90 1:11 PM
While she's down at this end of RL-460 the table, Lucky Star decides to make a two-hundred dollar straight-up bet on number 32. She clicks to deposit two chips on that number. NOTE: Lucky Star mistakenly deposits 3 chips, not two, so the cash and at-risk status should reflect this error on her part. Oops. She thinks she may have clicked once too many, but she's not sure. RL-470 To check her bet, she clicks on the instruction button while holding the pointer on top of her bet. RL-480 The display shows that the amount bet is $300. AUDIO EFFECTS: {Message describes the type of bet on number 35 and the payoff:} RL-490 ALSO: "A one-number bet pays MR2 36 for 1." file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 13 9/20/90 1:11 PM
While an audio message informs RL-500 her of the pay-off, the amount of her bet is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. Too much, decides Lucky Star, so RL-510 she clicks on REMOVE BET and then on her straight-up bet on number 32 to remove it from the layout. RL-520 To restore the pointer to its betmaking capability, she clicks on PLACE BET and then on the number 32 to deposit two chips, not three. OK, she's done now. We click on the player symbol to RL-530 bring Cloverleaf's lucky symbol into play. Cloverleaf moves the middle of RL-540 the betting layout into view, and he clicks in the black betting box outside the numerical layout. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 14 9/20/90 1:11 PM
RL-550 Betting on black is an eighteennumber bet which wins if the winning number is black. A bet on black -- or on red -- pays 2 for 1. Next, Cloverleaf moves down the RL-560 layout and clicks in the "odd" betting box. RL-570 An Odd bet is an eighteennumber bet which wins if the winning number is odd. Like the bet on black or red, an odd or even bet pays pays 2 for 1. The third eighteen-number bet isrl-580 the high or low bet, and Cloverleaf places a chip in the 19 to 36 box to make a high bet. Like the other eighteen-number RL-590 bets, the high or low bet pays pays 2 for 1. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 15 9/20/90 1:11 PM
With all eleven kinds of bets RL-600 demonstrated, let's spin the wheel. Thirty-three. Black. RL-610 Again, the losing bets are RL-620 collected, the winners are paid off, and everything is reset, ready to start another game. BETTING LIMITS RL-630 In roulette, the minimum bet is RL-640 one dollar and the maximum bet depends on the kind of wager you make. Highlight the numerical betting layout. The maximum wager allowed on any inside bet is $200. RL-650 Highlight the column bets and the dozen bets. The maximum wager allowed on a twelve-number bet is $2,500. RL-660 file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 16 9/20/90 1:11 PM
Highlight the red/black, the odd/even, and the high/low bets. The maximum wager allowed on an eighteen-number bet is $5,000. RL-670 OVERVIEW OF PLAYERS' BETS RL-680 If you deposit a chip in the same place where another player had already placed a bet, then your chip will cover the previous chip. RL-690 However, there are two ways you can check on bets. RL-700 You can click on each player's symbol to see the bets made by that player. RL-710 Or, to get a comprehensive look at every player's bet, click on OVERVIEW. RL-720 To return to the betting layout screen, click anywhere on the OVERVIEW SCREEN. ROULETTE PAYOFFS RL-740 Roulette Payoffs Chart. (See page 20, ENCLOSED.) A reference chart showing the eleven kinds of bets, the numbers covered by each bet, and the actual payoffs. Roulette is strictly a game of chance. As such, the probability that any particular number will turn up on any given spin is exactly the same every time the ball drops. RL-750 Here is a chart summarizing the actual payoffs for each kind of bet. RL-760 An easy way to figure out the payoffs for a bet is to divide 36 by the amount of numbers RL-770 covered by the bet. For example, a split-bet covers 2 numbers, so 36 divided by 2 gives a payoff of 18 for 1. file: ROULETTE TUTORIAL Page 18 9/20/90 1:11 PM
This method works for all bets RL-780 except the five-number bet, where the casino has a slightly greater house advantage than all the other bets. Regardless of the size of your RL-790 bet, or the type of bet you make, the house advantage on all payoffs in roulette is 5.26% -- except for the five-number bet, which is 7.89%.
