4 Small Cables Sealing Kit: Wrap Style I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N Gel Wrap Kit For Sealing up to 4 Small Cables in FOSC 450 & FOSC 600 Closures Max. Combined Diameter Closure Port of Drop Cables 450A, 600 C or D small.75 450A, 600 C or D large.0 -.38 * 450B, C, or D any.95 * If using 3-way seal in FOSC 600 Closure..0 General Product Information This kit is used to install small/micro or flat drop cables in one gel port of a FOSC 450 A, B, BS, C, or D or FOSC 600 fiber optic splice closure. The number of cables that can be installed in one port depends on the combined diameter of the cables and the capacity of the port in question, as shown in the chart to the left. Note: Single cables greater than.35 in diameter do not require this kit. 2.0 Kit Contents Gel strip Cable retention device (2 pieces; where applicable) Felt tape (green and black) Hose clamp FOPT tubing Installation instructions Micro Fiber Recommendations: When installing micro fiber cables, remove the micro duct from the cables. DO NOT bring the micro duct into the closure. Follow the appropriate steps outlined in the below instructions for the specific closure. Important: If installing drop with messenger or tracer wire, which was peeled back to remain outside the closure, shave the area of the drop that goes through the gel seal to create a smooth, flat surface. Figure

3.0 Installation 4.25". Wrap each cable with -/2 wraps of green felt tape in two positions, as indicated in Figure 2. Notice that the measurements are different for FOSC 450 D, BS, C and B closures than for FOSC 450 A closures. (Measurements are from sheath ring cut.) It is recommended that 40 of fiber extend beyond the ring cut (00 for FOSC 600 closure). Note: Single cables less than.35 in diameter must be wrapped with gel strip, as directed in Step 2. ring cut 2.0" green felt tape drop cables Figure 2: A Closures Note: If bringing messenger or tracer wire inside the closure, peel back the messenger and install it like two cables with gel in between. 2.5" 4.75" drop cables ring cut green felt tape Figure 2: B, BS, C, D Closures 2.5" 4.75" drop cables 2. Wrap one layer of the gel strip around the first cable between the two felt tapes. Do not stretch the gel strip as you wrap it around the cable. Place self-adhering side against cable. (Fig. 3) For a single drop, go to Step 6. ring cut green felt tape gel strip Figure 2: 600 Closures 3. Position the second cable next to the first. Wrap the gel strip around the second cable as shown. Again, the gel strip goes between the two felt tape wraps. 4. For three or four cables, position the remaining two cable(s) (numbered 3 and 4 in the illustration) alongside the first two cables as indicated in Figure 4. Cables 3 and 4 are not wrapped with the gel strip; however, they are wrapped with green felt tape, as indicated in Figure 2. 2 2 Figure 3 two small/micro cables two flat cables Figure 4 3 4 3 4 2 2 four small round cables four flat cables 5. Secure the cables with vinyl tape next to the felt tape. Do not tape over gel strip. (Fig. 5) vinyl tape 2 Figure 5

6. Measure from the end of the ring cut and wrap all cables with two layers of black felt tape, referring to Figure 6 for dimensions. Note that the position of the tape is different for FOSC 450 B, BS, C, and D closures than for FOSC 450 A and FOSC 600 closures..75" black felt tape Figure 6: A Closures Note: Wrap two layers of black tape at the ring cut if installing in FOSC 600 closure. " Important: If installing in the FOSC 600 closure, go to Step 6. black felt tape 7. For cables with rigid strength member(s), measure.5 from the ring cut and cut the strength member. 8. For cables with aramid strength member(s), wrap the aramid fibers around the strength member bracket. Place the lug and tighten it down. 9. Position the cable retention device so that the teeth of the retention clips are on top of the black felt tape applied in Step 6 (Figs. 7 and 8). Figure 6: B, BS, C and D Closures Figure 7 0. Install the hose clamp over the retention clips. (Fig. 9 Tighten the hose clamp such that the teeth fully seat into the cable assembly. Figure 8 Figure 9 3

IMPORTANT: For FOSC 450 A closures, do not complete steps 9-5. Skip to Step 6.. Insert the cable retention device into an empty slot on the closure frame. Secure with the rotating clips on the frame. (Fig. 0) Figure 0 2. Insert the spacer into the back of the frame as shown in Figure. Note: This spacer may already be installed in the closure. Do not remove it. spacer Figure Note: The new frame, shown in Figure 2, does not require the spacer. Figure 2 3. Install gel block. Gel strip from cable seal should be aligned with gel in gel block. (Fig. 3) Figure 3 4

4. Close the gel seal. Insert yellow plugs into unused ports. (Fig. 4) 5. Re-install closure base and tighten gel block to seal cables. Note: Please leave remaining components and bag inside closure for future installs. For FOSC 450 B, BS, C, and D closures, the installation is complete. Figure 4 6. Position the small cable assembly into the designated port. (Fig. 5) 7. Place the cable between the cable retention bracket and secure the cable with the enclosed hose clamp. (Fig. 6 Tighten the clamp such that the teeth fully seat into the cable assembly. Note: The head of the hose clamp must be positioned on top of the cable retention bracket; otherwise it might interfere with the base when assembled. 4.0 Fiber Routing To Splice Or Splitter Trays (FOSC 450 D closures only). If needed (for example, if the tube of the small cable is stiff), the thin FOPT tubing can be inserted into the core tube of the small cable to route fibers to trays. 2. For two fiber system, insert two FOPT tubes into the core tube of cable to route the two fibers to different splitters. 3. Other sizes of transportation tubes are in closure kits. Figure 5 5.0 Adding Additional Small Cables After Initial Installation is Complete Note: If installing in FOSC 450 A or FOSC 600 splice closure, remove hose clamp and proceed to step 2 below. Figure 6. Remove the hose clamp and pull the bottom part of the retention device off. 2. Undo the vinyl tape and felt tape holding the small cables together. 3. Follow Section 3.0, steps -4, positioning the new cable(s) in position(s) 3 and/or 4. 4. Re-wrap the cables with green felt tape and vinyl tape as indicated in Section 3.0 Step 5. Complete all remaining appropriate steps to finish the installation. 5 Figure 7
