A. What is the ILO s Microinsurance Innovation Facility s e-learning centre? The ILO s e-learning centre is a web based campus where we offer free e-learning courses that leverage our wealth of knowledge in microinsurance. Our e-learning centre is built on our experience in extracting lessons from pioneers, facilitating learning, and sharing successes and challenges with all interested stakeholders. The e-learning centre is part of a broader knowledge and capacity development program that aims to share experiences and lessons learned by players from around the world, and train a broader number of practitioners on the use of practical tools needed to improve practice and reach quality microinsurance at scale. In this guide, you will find information that will prepare you for using the ILO s e-learning centre. This guide aims to explain how to navigate within the structure of the site. It will take you step-by-step through registration, entering the e-learning centre and working within the course.

System Requirements Before learning more about our e-learning centre, please familiarize yourself with the system requirements below. Internet connection is required to access the ILO s e-learning centre. Users will need to be connected to the internet while they are taking courses and going through lessons. Our web based e-learning platform will run on any operating system and internet browser. For the best experience on our e-learning centre, we recommend that you use the most recent version of any of the following internet browsers: Firefox, Chrome, Safari 6 and Internet Explorer 10. Our dynamic e-learning website will adjust to the screen resolution of your display but we recommend that your screen resolution should be at least 1024 x 867. If there are issues in displaying the lessons, you can check your screen resolution and set it at the recommended dimensions by accessing the Display or Appearance and Personalization settings from your computer s Control panel, PC settings or System preferences. You can find detailed instructions on how to adjust your screen resolution by clicking on your computer s operating system: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Mac OS X. These instructions can be found in the support site of your operating system, if it is not listed here. A PDF viewer software is also required in order to view the handouts in the courses. If you encounter any issues on the e-learning centre, please contact us at microinsuranceknowledge@ilo.org. B. Registering to the ILO s e-learning centre An account on the e-learning centre must be created before accessing any of the online courses. Please note that creating an account only registers you to the e-learning centre. Enrolment to courses is done after an account is created (see Section C for details). 1. Go to the login page of the course website (http://elearning.microinsurancefacility.org/login/index.php), which is also indicated in the Welcome email you received. 2. Read carefully the text under the heading, Is this your first time here? 3. Click on the New Account link in the instructions or the Create new account button. 4. Complete the New Account form with your details. Please note that fields in red are required fields that must be filled up before you can submit the form.

5. A notice will pop up indicating an email has been sent to your email address. 6. You will receive an email immediately at the email address you entered in the form. Click on the link in the email to confirm your registration. 7. You will then be taken back to the homepage of the e-learning centre where you will need to log in.

C. Enrolling to a course After you have successfully created an account in the ILO s e-learning centre, you can now enrol in the course that you are interested in. 1. On the e-learning centre homepage, the courses are listed under Available Courses. 2. Click on the title of the course you want to enrol it. In the case of the sample screenshot below, the course to enrol in is Market Research. 3. All of the Facility s courses require an enrolment key. The enrolment key for the course you are interested in is provided in the Welcome email you received prior to registration. 4. Once you have entered the enrolment key, click on the button Enrol me. 5. You will then be taken to the Course Homepage. 6. At the same time, you will also receive an email welcoming you to the course that you have successfully enrolled in.

D. Accessing the course page The homepage of every e-learning course has different sections that present information about the course and its lessons.

Course Overview This section gives an overview of the course including course objectives, course activities and a course schedule that gives you a general timeframe on when to complete specific lessons, which are usually in preparation for a scheduled face to face event. News and Announcements Any news and announcement related to the course will be posted here. Pre-lesson questionnaire The short pre-lesson questionnaire will help us learn more about your experience that are relevant to the course and your course expectations. Please note that you are required to fill in and submit this questionnaire before you can access the lessons of the course. Action Planner The Action Planner is what will help you synthesize what you have learned from the lessons. After the course, a completed Action Planner can help you apply the lesson s key concepts to your work and context. Certificate of Completion When you complete all the requirements of the course, the certificate of completion will appear and be accessed in the course overview. The requirements will be detailed in a Course Guide that you will receive a week before the course starts. Breadcrumbs The breadcrumb trail shows you the path you have taken in the e-learning centre and is an easy way to navigate within a course. Click on My Courses, which will always be the second link in the breadcrumb, to go back to your personal homepage. From any activity within a course, click on the Course title on the breadcrumb to go back to the Course homepage.

Lessons The content of the courses can be found in the lessons. The lessons are listed sequentially and are composed of the interactive lesson and handouts. Interactive lesson The interactive lessons present the content of each lesson in a structured and interactive way. In the Course pages, interactive lessons are the links that have a yellow box icon, like the screenshot below. Note that some lessons may have mini-lessons that will be referred to as you go through the main lesson. When you access an interactive lesson for the first time, you will be directed to the Entry page that contains the description of the lesson. You need to click Enter to view the slides. There is no limit in the number of times to attempt and access the slides but you only need to complete it once. The slides are considered complete only after you have viewed all the slides. A check will appear beside the specific interactive lesson on the Course page when you have completed them. If you navigate away from the interactive lesson, the system will save your progress. When you return to it, you will be asked if you would like to continue where you left.

The screenshot below walks you through the player that the lessons are viewed on. Handouts The handouts are downloadable files that can be viewed and printed out with any PDF viewer software. You can access the handouts from (1) the Course page, (2) Navigation block or (3) link in the slides of the lesson.
