Italian Technologies for Kitchen Food Waste Ing. Piero Rusconi Clerici Rome, 22 January 2015
Short story of Ecofast Italia Ecofast Italia was established in 1998 as a result of a decision of a team of entrepeneurs living in Milan Initially the company was importing specific machines from abroad. As from 2008 the company design, produce and sell its own ones from 2013 we are also developing a transfer technology activity starting from England and China
Kitchen Food Waste (KFW) Portion of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Is the KFW a low-value portion of MSW? No! Instead: 1. If non sorted, it affects drammatically the cost of MSW logistic 2. If sorted and correctly collected, can be stored for longer time, reducing the logistc costs 3. It can become energy (CH4; later H2(?!)) and fertilizer 4. It can help the Waste Water (WW) depuration process
KFW and WW The two waste, waste water and food waste, can be efficiently combined because: 1. KFW is composed of water by 85% making the integration of the 2 streams compatible 2. If finely ground the KFW can be exploit in the reduction of Nitrogen and Phosphourus at the WW treatment plant 3. Once ground and poured (all or in part) into the sewerage it can t be diverted from its final disposal, avoiding uncorrected uses Ecofast in the past years has been involved within European Projects based on these assumptions
KFW and WW.. in addition : water, in the common perception, is the natural cleaning agent and the KFW technologies need to be always tidy the water consumption, not the water use has to be limited!
KFW and Sustainabilty The FWDs since their invention (1927) are considered an user friendly household appliances The SSCS start from the precondition that the citizen is the first ring of the chain and thus he must be facilitated in performing his job Of course the citizen can t be the only focus; the compatibility with the existing infrastructures is also central
KFW collecting and recycling Is well known that: the Separated Source Collecting System is the strategy designed to make any kind waste a by-product The sorting activity is crucial for the waste recovery and thus it should be as easy as possible and possibly performed when the waste is generated Ecofast has adopted the FWD, a relative old and experienced technology, as basic SSCS tool, combining it with other apparatuses
Ecofast suggestions FWDs: Domestic Professional experienced technology widely used (estimated worldwide production 10 mls pieces) starting point for a modern SSCS

Variety of Ecofast Solutions The combination of the basic machines and apparatus brings to the following possible configurations 1. REWISER: the domestic remote system 2. Dehydra System: the professional remote system 3. SC1 Compact System
Rewiser domestic remote system A cluster of FWDs and a centralized tank + dehydrator Perform a high selected collection of food waste reduced in volume, weight and odourous emissions collecting frequency: up to once per week
Professional remote system Up to 5 intake stations, 1 large storage tank and 2 dehydrators Perform a high selected collection of food waste reduced in volume, weight and odourous emissions complying with the HACCP rules collection: up to once per week
Dehydrator Compact system Perform a high selected collection of food waste reduced in volume, weight and odourous emissions complying with the HACCP rules collection: up to once per week
Ecofast in Far East Energy 1,Ecofast s distributor in South Korea, has succesfully applied the technical approval of Rewiser technology to the Korea Land and Housing Corporation. Field test will be performed in 2015-2016 Building s blocks: F13-F14-F15 Total apartments: 2.590 Planning: 2015-2016
Ecofast in Far East From 2014 CHGreen, Ecofast s distributor in Malaysia, is promoting the company s technologies combining them with a series of small anaerobic digesters for decentralised biogas production, distributed by the CHGreen in the Country August 7th, 2014 Ecofast presentation at Petaling Jaya Council (Kuala Lumpur)
European projects Rewise a project within the Intelligent Energy Europe Program (2007): use of smart FWDs exploiting existing infrastructures (Waste Water Treatment Plants) FC-District a large collaborative project within the 7 FP(www.fcdistrct.eu): KFW collection in any single household, maximizing the biogas production at district level, to feed Fuel Cells installed in a smart grid
