MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ATHLETIC TRAINING MORAVIAN COLLEGE

ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Moravian College athletic training program is a full-time, two-year, entry-level, professional-practice program. After two years of classroom and clinical education, graduates will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification exam to become certified athletic trainers. The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, which houses the athletic training program, focuses on inter-professional education and prepares students to become health care practitioners in a multi-disciplinary health care environment. The program emphasizes student involvement in: Clinical Research Scholarship and Professional Presentation Leadership Development Professional Engagement An innovative, evidence-based curriculum and clinical education model is paramount to preparing the next generation of athletic trainers. Moravian College and their faculty have designed a program that will exceed all expectations and quickly make the program a national leader within the profession. Dr. John Hauth, EdD, LAT, ATC Senior Director, Sports Medicine Relationships at St. Luke s University Health Network; Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society Hall of Fame

THE ST. LUKE S UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK CONNECTION Moravian College and St. Luke s University Health Network have, once again, re-imagined their long history of collaboration and partnership to deliver a truly inter-professional educational experience in an environment modeled after best practices in the clinical setting. Students will naturally adopt the entrepreneurial spirit from Moravian College s unique curricular structure, while taking cues from St. Luke s 140-year history of clinical innovation and meeting the needs of the community. Students will work closely with faculty members, health care professionals and fellow students in a setting that will foster the highest level of learning and engagement across multiple disciplines. MORAVIAN COLLEGE &

SPORTS MEDICINE & REHABILITATION CENTER The athletic training program is located in the Moravian College / St. Luke s University Health Network, Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center. This 45,00-square-foot facility features dedicated classroom and laboratory space for athletic training education. The space includes: an orthopedic assessment lab, therapeutic modalities lab, functional rehabilitation lab, splint fabrication lab, research lab and patient simulation rooms. The inclusion of St. Luke s patient-care facilities and state-of-the-art equipment in the Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center allows students to complete both didactic and clinical education in the same building. St. Luke s clinics within the Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Center include: Primary Care Sports Medicine Orthopedics Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation

ENTER A GROWING FIELD Athletic training is one of the fastest growing health care occupations, with an anticipated 22% increase in jobs through 2022. As awareness and regulation around sports-related injuries grows at all levels of athletics, so does the demand for certified, licensed athletic trainers. FACULTY Our award-winning athletic training faculty are nationally recognized experts and authors in the areas of psychology of injury, spine evaluation and treatment, neurologic examination, manual therapy, therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation. ACCREDITATION Moravian College is currently seeking accreditation for their new athletic training program and is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation visit process on July 1, 2017. Submission of the self-study and completion of a site visit does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. Students that graduate from the program prior to accreditation WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the credentialing examination for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states. The program anticipates a spring 2018 accreditation site visit which, if successful, would allow students to be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification to become a certified athletic trainer.

CLINICAL EDUCATION Students engage in local, national and international immersive clinical education experiences which maximize their exposure to clinical practice under the supervision of experienced, certified and licensed health care providers. Six immersive clinical education experiences, totaling 50 weeks of clinical education, allow students to gain experience in secondary schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, physician offices, rehabilitation clinics, the performing arts and more.
